Pumpkin Carving

Anyone do any carving for Halloween? I couldn't think of anything original this year, and wound up just carving a Minion.

It came out okay, despite some of my favorite clay sculpting tools breaking 30 minutes into the carving, but I still prefer my 2011 carving:

Very cool. This was my first year trying to do something other than the classic carvings. Turned out pretty well I think.

I did my first ever pumpkin carving... and then I felt bad that we were sort of wasting food but that I really really liked it.

Save the seeds and bake them, no waste. We did a batch of plain sea salt and then a batch of cinnamon sugar.

Nice stuff. My wife bakes the seeds with sea salt and butter, which makes for a nice snack... right behind the 2 lbs. of leftover candy in my pantry.

Just did some free hand stuff this year. (I have no claim on the one in back. My old man did that one, and I still don't know what it's supposed to be.)

Thank you. This is what that one looked like in detail. Almost looks bad until you light it up from the inside.

Yeah we did that too! We did s+p, s+p +garlic, and old bay + garlic

I also steamed the guts (separating the hard fibers from the regular innards) and plan to make pumpkin pie with it once I mash it all up. Just steaming it made it smell delicious. Why can't fall last for half the year! It's so much fun!

We totally stuffed our faces with candy, carved the pumpkins, separated the seeds while watching The Shining and Dawn of the Dead (2004).
I loved it! Great Hallows Eve!

Those really aren't pie pumpkins, but if it works, good on you!

It's that time of year again, and I'm completely blanking out on ideas for this year's carving. I thought about doing a Penguins logo and Stanley Cup, but that may be too easy/obvious.

Mad respect to some of yinz. I start out trying to do something nice and inevitably just mash two triangle eyes and a disjointed mouth into the side of the thing.

We did a Jack-o-lantern twelve years ago that was the Foo Fighters FF logo that............ did not turn out well. That was the only and and only time we tried it.

Looking at my schedule for the next 3 weekends, I'm not going to have the time to dedicate to an intricate carving like I have in the past, but I did pick our a design. I'll post pics once it's actually done in a few weeks.

These are great! I'm going to do one for the first time this year. It will likely be really bad but I'm looking forward to it.
