Per all the EW stuff released yesterday episode 3 is going to be The Battle of Winterfell.
It will feature the longest battle sequence in film history, will be longer than Helm’s Deep, and will feature the most characters since the pilot.
I assume this means that the real enemy, that NTP66 Cersei, remains the end game.

Man, legit chills with that trailer.
Book-related statement:
Beric Dondarrion re-emergence in that trailer moves chances of Lady Stoneheart appearance from 0.0% to 0.00001%. Do it, damn it.
 The LS TV truth movement is entertaining. I WANT TO BELIEVE.

I honestly wonder how they are going to close up with that. Surely it won't be another big battle at King's Landing or something? At this point I would think virtually all the houses would be against her.

I’m sure they are, but the trailer did show the Golden Company sailing on into town, so she’s still got some force. Everyone else suffers big losses at Winterfell and Cersei and her mercenaries remain untouched.

No clue wtf they’re gonna do with Cersei, however.
In terms of her endgame, the parallels with the Mad King + Jaime as both Kingslayer/fulfiller of the Valonqar prophecy seems to be the obvious course

Mmm. Somehow this completely slipped my mind. Yes, there is no question, at least to me, that Jaime kills his sister.

...
i guess i'm kind of surprised that she's primed to be "the big bad". i don't like the idea of dispensing with the invincible army half way through the season, and then deal with this silly butt plug and her emo pirate army.

Are they going to destroy the audience with a
Hodor ice zombie?

In other words, Troy, it’s very likely that they are only showing footage from the first episode or 2. Which is typical for any show’s first trailer. You show more abstract things peppered throughout the season. But anything meaty is going to be early on.

I’d picture a dragon dying at winterfell, along with some of the main-ish characters. And of course the other side takes losses too. Maybe they discover an edge that they can use in the next battle that evens out the numbers a bit.

But in no way do I think the culminating event is the battle of winterfell. If it is, that really really blows.

No clue wtf they’re gonna do with Cersei, however.
I think it's just going to be a whirlwind sequence of events that ends with Cersei fighting with everyone else against the NK.

that's not going to cut it with viewers. if they throw a redemption arc her way, this story is ruined.

Agreed. I think it's far more likely she basically becomes the Mad King.

Id expect an hour devoted to this.

Which is 59 minutes too much.

I totally forgot about Uncle Euron until we did the rewatch a few weeks ago. He reminds me of a shittier Jack Sparrow.

I want to watch the finger in the bum scene, picturing Johnny Depp in pirate garb doing it.

I’m guessing it’ll be the piss break episode of the season. They said they’re treating each episode like a movie, so it would make sense.

I like the idea of Theon getting an ending of some kind. But his sister sucks. Euron sucks. Iron born suck. So I dunno...maybe just have him show up at the end saying he won and that, “It truly was... A Game of Thrones”. They all laugh. Freeze frame. 80’s theme song ensues. End series.

GRRM says there may be differences between the end of the show and how he ends the books. The big news here is that GRRM is still pretending he's ever going to finish the books.

Lol. At this point, I'll be surprised if he even releases the next book, let alone finishes the series. (and if he ever does finish book 6, all the sudden he'll need 8)

Sorry GRRM. TV is canon now.
