I would really like to see a Dunk and Egg prequel series on HBO. Those are novellas, so much more concise and probably cheaper to produce.

I haven't read the Dunk and Egg prequels because I've been so irritated about the lack of new books.

I believe GRRM is releasing the three stories under one cover for the first time, at some point this year. They've been scattered in other anthologies prior to this - and there have been a couple of graphic novel adaptations too.

GRRM has released a chapter of the new book.

It's probably all he has finished.

Yeah, I saw that earlier... The people that run westeros.org apparently saw this awhile ago and made some silly comments about it being controversial for some reason... which of course it isn't... at all. it is, however, boring IMO.

One week!

Also, Martin is "determined" to finish TWOW before S6. I'll believe it when it happens.

Just heard an interviewer say to GRR Martin "Your fans love you, and you are just so good to them". What?

Good start to the season. Planting lots of seeds for possible plots.

Feels like an old glove. Interesting that they left out Cersei's third question... Wonder if that will come up later.

Book thing.

Mance...
that wasn't him right? Didn't they pull a freaky Friday with him and the lord of bones?

Yeah. In the books, they put Mance in Rattleshirt's armor and burn Rattleshirt instead. Mance is then sent to Winterfell to aid in Theon and "Arya"'s escape.
Also, now that I'm not on my phone, re: the flashback (book spoilers)
I wonder if they will revisit the valonqar portion of the prophecy later or if they are leaving that out. That may be a big deal since it has to do with (what she thinks anyway) Tyrion potentially killing her, which explains further why she has wanted him dead for so many years).

Of course, in book terms, it is as of yet unclear who the 'valonqar' is... some feel it might be Jaime who ultimately kills her rather than Tyrion.

I guess we'll see if they revisit that or not in the coming weeks.

So weird to see a "Previously on Game of Thrones" feature at the beginning. Usually, the first episode has an extended opening scene before the title sequence.

Also, as I noted elsewhere, HBO Go worked flawlessly for me last night. I really thought it would be down with all of the new Sling and standalone subscribers watching the premiere.

Mance
I wonder if his departure was related to the actor's availability? Ciaran Hinds is always popping up in something. I suppose Stannis isn't going to like Jon's action there.

it was a good episode, overall, but there's nothing specific i'm looking forward to this season. the stories that are set up are all kind of meh, imo (except for Arya's). the characters and the execution of the production will still be enough to make it appointment viewing, though.
-they better not wait 10 episodes to get danny on that dragon, because it's going to be excruciating in the mean time. but they have to wait for tyrion to get there, so i think we're stuck with this mereen loop for a while.
-i still don't care about the night's watch. it's always been the weakest part of the show (save brienne), and adding a tablespoon of vanilla in stannis doesn't help. though melissandre helps a lot.
-the cersei plot is great stuff with great actors. looking forward to the margery feud
-there better be some transcendent performances with these dorne people. i don't foresee that whole thing being very interesting

...this is more negative than i expected. but that's in line with my opinion about the books at this point, so i shouldn't be surprised.

Man, I need to watch a recap of the first 4 seasons. I don't remember much from last season. Sansa and Arya/ the hound etc... Thete was a bear in one of the seasons...dragons and white walkers.

Hodor!

I am excited for this season.

Wasn't the first scene of Cersei and Jamie talking over their father's body shown immediately after the end of last season?
