I guess I meant more in the mass scale side of things. Obviously things are picking back up now that the prequels are coming out, and people are still going to watch.There are a ton of people who still give a **** about it. I think the internet (specifically Reddit) makes the backlash seem much louder than it actually was/is. It's still one of the most watched shows on HBO Max. The two House of Dragon trailers are the 4th and 5th most watched videos on HBO Max's YouTube with 17m views each (and the latest trailer was just released 2 weeks ago). The hype is real and HBO would not greenlight so many damn spin-offs if the demand wasn't there.
It was basically a huge phenomenon and then just kind of went away after the last season. Maybe that happens more often than I imagine when shows end, but to me at least it seems the last season of the show made it lose its luster in how its was perceived after the fact.
