Handmaid's Tale is fantastic.
So I finally binged Handmaid's Tale and came to the board to see what others had said about it.

The majority of the search results were for the Politics thread.

F you guys.

Yesterday's Jeopardy! ended in a tie after Final Jeopardy, requiring a tie breaker:

My 9 year old flipped out and ran around the house to get us to watch.

I could have sworn in the past that when there was a tie like this that they just brought both winners back the next day.

Really enjoyed Altered Carbon. Found yet another book series I’ll never have time to read. Sigh.

Nice touch casting Max Headroom as one of the AI characters too.

Good catch, I just watched that episode and couldn't figure out why he looked so familiar! Man this show is intense.

Netflix is on a roll with their OC. I can't wait to see how they address season 2 of Altered Carbon.

Judging from the plot of the second book, it could be a completely different cast - it’s set 30 years in the future. That would be a tough sell on network TV - a hit show with an entirely new cast each season. But I guess we’ll see.
As for the first season, very interesting take on Day of the Dead. Lots to unpack from that society, which makes me really want to delve into the books.

Yeah, I read about what they could possibly do. Joel Kinnaman said he hasn't ruled out returning if there is a second season (has to be, given the popularity of the show): https://www.cinemablend.com/television/ ... the-latest. My guess is that he could return in flash backs, similar to what they did in season 1 with his former sleeve. I thought about picking up the book(s), but really, I think that would spoil it for me.

First we get two new Chappelle specials, and now Chris Rock? I'm really loving Netflix right now.
We're halfway through this, and so far it's terrific. Rock hasn't lost any swagger.
started off strong, but this wasn't good. i've really liked his stand up specials in the past. this was a guy who forgot how to do it. taking 5 minutes to repeat the same unfunny joke about 5 times is so far below his benchmark. and he did this kind of run multiple times. turned it off half way thru. maybe i missed some gold in the 2nd half, but i was willing to take the risk.

I know I'm 40 years behind but Fawlty Towers is exceptional.

Homeland
When the Russian spy from The Americans shows up...things aren’t going to end up well for Carrie and co.

Unfortunately, the minute I saw him - he didn’t speak a single line - I knew the storyline was about to get a Russian disinformation angle, before he even did anything. It’s sad when casting spoils an interesting plot point.

You're insane, Tambourine was exceptional, start-to-finish.

I thought it was the least compelling Chris Rock special I've ever seen, but still better than most of the comedy specials Netflix serves.

It maybe wasn't the funniest concert he's ever done, but I've never been more interested in hearing what he was saying. It was engaging on a completely different level, and I admire the crap out of him for his candor.

Even if I agreed with that, the bar set by his previous work was already sky high.

So you liked the bit when he listed random white objects in his house and made the exact same joke about all of them? And it took forever. Or the personal stories he told that had no authenticity to them whatsoever? I mean...it’s gotta be at least plausible that these are real anecdotes.

It’s a shame because his opening 5 minutes were awesome. The rest of it was Chris Rock 2018 trying to remember how to be Chris Rock 1998. Better than Jeff Dunham or Larry the Cable Guy (I only assume with the latter), but not a heavyweight performance. Uh uh. Chappelle, Burr, MacDonald...these are top tier. Rock is nestled into tier 2 with post 2012 Louie CK

bad norm > bad rock

i think it boils down to the fact that it just wasn't authentic. when chappelle dives into issue, it feels like he's in the middle of them. with rock, it feels like he's watching them on tv. and only briefly.
