Just finished S01 of Monarch. Man, what a terrific season. I hope there's a continuation of the storyline, which I have to assume there is based on the ending.

So I should give it another shot after the first episode?

Been watching Boardwalk Empire the past couple weeks. Never watched before. I have 2 takeaways, first Buscemi is badly miscast. He’s fine for what it is but I just don’t believe the story he’s trying to tell. Second, I just finished season 3 and honestly, I don’t care to watch more. IMO it really lost its way once
Jimmy was killed

Well the actor was a pain in the ass so they decided to get rid of him somehow.

It has been a while since I looked at Boardwalk Empire stuff, but I seem to recall Buscemi was a reasonable facsimile of the real Nucky. In the you'd-never-expect-this-guy-is-a-gangster sense.

I don’t find Gretchen Mol to be a particularly good actress. Dating back to even Rounders, she was just the same character in everything. Also read she was a Weinstein girl soooo may not have gotten her foot in the door due to acting…

Apparently there's a Queen's Gambit season 2 coming? Can't say I'm super excited. They don't have any more source material afaik, and the first season ended fine (since it was based off source material).

The first two episodes of Masters of the Air are out, and to no surprise, are very good. Nice to watch them in 4K, too, as Apple TV+ doesn't upcharge for 4K (yet).
I've only watched episode 1 so far but I thought it was solid. not a fan of Austin Butler but I get that he has a good look for those 40s and 50s period pieces.
Thought first episode was decent, but definitely feels like we are missing out on some character development with them jumping right in. I liked how Currahee setup BoB
Agreed. Im caught up and still trying to figure out the characters. It also took me a few watches of the other 2 shows to really know each character so I expect the same here.

That said, the mission scenes here are incredible. They’re exciting and heart racing and hard to watch at times. I feel like I’m missing some of the overall sense of the war without much boots on the ground stuff but it looks like that might be coming next week. It’s not band of brothers but it definitely has its place in the trilogy of shows.

Watched 4 episodes of True Detective and I don’t really understand the hate. It’s biggest sin is the pacing but from what I’ve read here and other places I was expecting something much much worse. I’m intrigued by the mystery, I was surprised just how overtly supernatural it is but I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. Tighten up the storytelling, hell make it a 2.5 hour movie, and I think you have a solid detective story. Maybe it helps that I’m able to binge it all at once.

I only saw 1/3 of the show, since my wife watches it, but the final season or two was just absurd. Lunatic former tax nerd is just crazy, can’t see anything in front of him but is finding names and addresses from letters in the dumpster in pitch black. And he carries a gun.

Then we have an episode in which the writers thought, hey, you know what everyone would love? To see nothing but blur for 10 minutes. Yeah! Wrong, **** off.

It's a tremendous ridiculous show. The finale is something else.

I never watched the Daily Show on John Stewart’s original run because I found the Colbert Report to be much more interesting. That said, I find the fact that he’ll be returning one day a week to be pretty intriguing honestly and I think I’ll actually watch it

Last Week Tonight tickles the same political comedy itch that Colbert Report did but the fact that it’s only one day a week slightly frustrates me (just because I enjoy it so much) so it’ll be nice to pair this with the new Stewart episodes
