You guys seemed to like it, but after just finishing it, I think the Americans was a very very average show, and that finale was nothing more than a cop out for not knowing how to finish a story. This is 75 hours or so that I’d like back, I think.

Edit: the finale was good. I didn’t get some of it on first pass.
You're not wrong. The show for us was just filler waiting for the next Netflix DVD to come in the mail. It kept me interested enough to want to keep watching to the end, but it wasn't anything great.

I think if they would have made Philip become a counter-agent, that would have made things very interesting. Instead, he just toed the line between being a Russian agent and having a conscience.
At least that whole multi episode plot about his Russian son paid off.

But really...season 1 was amateur hour. Season 2 was slightly better. Season 3 was great. Season 4 was good. Season 5 was a true disaster. Really unbelievably bad. Season 6 was good, but you can’t leave that many threads dangling.

Just a really uneven show. It seems to get a lot of credit for being thoughtful, but I think the showrunners were just throwing **** against the wall without a real plan.

I've tried to get into it about a dozen times and I just can't. It's like that with Mr. Robot as well.

Being a big Tom Clancy fan doesn't help either. Growing up with those books puts an expectation on any US vs. USSR spy story.

Watched Chernobyl, and it was good. I felt physically ill during the whole thing.

The score is particularly haunting. Composed, naturally, by a Icelandic cellist.

Started watching Sopranos from the beginning. My god is the pacing slow. I don’t remember it being like this.

I enjoyed the Sopranos, but didn’t love the Sopranos.

I just finished rewatching it. I understand what you’re saying, but it didn’t bother me. I think part of it is it wasn’t meant to be binge watched. I remembered certain arcs seemingly lasting a long time, but actually would only last two or three episodes.

The Orville renewed for S03. :thumb:

Also renewed, SEAL Team and S.W.A.T., both of which have gotten better with age, IMO.

Amazing Race has filmed another season, so it's been renewed unofficially.

I’m watching How It’s Made, and an old episode came on with the imposter narrator. I remember when Brooks Moore was replace for two seasons, and then given back the role after fan uproar (a petition in which I myself also signed).

This is still one of the most interesting shows on TV.

Barry's had a couple of great weeks. Any time Bill Hader does a scene after getting his psyche all scrambled is appointment viewing.

Also..."Hey Ike ya shitbird. Want a little Piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeee?"

We just started watching both Barry and What We Do in the Shadows. Only one episode in on each, but we like them. There are some scenes in Barry where Hader really looks like Michael C. Hall in Dexter.

I loved X-Files when it was first run. I was 11 when it came out so it was right in my wheelhouse. I tried to go back and rewatch it in 2013 and I found that it didn't hold up at all. I ended up not even watching the reboot that came out a few years ago. Maybe you'll get more out of it.

I did the same a couple years ago and found the opposite (at least the first 3 seasons).

I'm really interested to see where they go with the Chief and his mayoral run, as well as the Haiti stuff with Marlow.

I'm really interested in what will happen with Marlow. That was a tense conversation with the two crooked cops and he really put a target on his back. I love the storyline with the Chief. It feels like Deputy Commissioner Daniels decided to move across the country to continue his law enforcement and political career.
I thought Ryan Hurst and Detective Vega were excellent additions to the cast this year. They've done an excellent job fleshing out the supporting characters. I feel like I know what they're all about despite the limited screen time they get.
