Season 42 of This Old House premiered this week. This makes me very happy.

Bill Burr with a terrific SNL monologue.

I found that kind of rough to be honest.
I'm also kind of shocked that people are like "this material is killer."

I'm all for giving comedians long leashes in terms of the believability needed to set up the premise of a joke, but when the one bit about Pride and Black History Month opened with him being like "I just learned about this thing called Pride," like, come on, give me a break. Especially for a comedian of his ilk. To me, the fact that he expected us to buy into that premise was the most offensive part of his set.

And yes, rough start to the season for sure. I'm willing to give them some leeway the first few episodes, but I'm hoping things get turned around soon.

The Expanse is going weekly...hmmm. First three episodes out December 16th, and then every Wednesday for the other seven:

I can live with that, especially since it'll prevent me from binging it all and then having nothing to watch.

I wonder if streaming services are looking at a diminished pipeline due to COVID and will go for weekly releases because of that. Makes sense.

Yeah, I think that's one reason for the weekly release. The other is to draw out the buzz for these shows, so instead of everyone talking about it 4 days after a season is dropped, it's spread over 7-8 weeks. The Boys drop an "Inside The Boys" show for each episode which doesn't make sense if the show comes out all at once. Most Amazon Prime subscriptions are paid annually, right? So it doesn't make sense for them to do the weekly release thing to draw out longer subscriptions.

I started Disney+ Right Stuff series, and it's doing the weekly release thing.

Dexter is back to his blood-splattering ways after Showtime ordered a new limited series reboot of the long-running serial killer drama.

Michael C. Hall, who played Dexter in the series, which ran between 2006 and 2013, is back with showrunner Clyde Phillips.

The network has handed the series a ten-part run that is set to go into production in early 2021 with a tentative premiere date of fall 2021.

The original followed Dexter Morgan, who was a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department that moonlighted as a serial killer.

Gary Levine, Co-President of Entertainment at Showtime, said that the network was only willing to revisit the “unique” character if they could find a creative take that was “worthy” and they have “found it”.

I’m intrigued just because the final season and episode were such utter dog ****. Worst thing ever.

The final episode of Dexter might be the worst series finale ever.

Hah. We just watched it last week. Took me 11 years to finish that series.

I don't feel like I was well rewarded.

That said, there is a 10 episode limited Dexter series coming, so it may payoff.

It can’t be worse than season 8, so I’m very hopeful.

I still don’t understand how any of the ideas for season 8 made it out of the writers room.

Wasn't it developed during the writers' strike?

I dont know why I associate Dexter with the strike...

Writer’s strike was in 08 and CBS tried filling dead air time but putting an edited version of the first couple seasons on CBS. Final season wasn’t until years later.

Anyone else have HBO Max? I love Batman and have been watching all the Batman movies and animated movies on there in the DC section. I'm loving it.

Still realized I knew almost every line of the 1989 Batman Keaton movie. Realized I have all but forgotten how bad Batman Forever and Batman and Robin were (Jim Carey and Tommy Lee Jones both overacting in their rolls of the Riddler and Two Face), and how good IMO Batman Begins was.

Also a lot of the animated movies are fantastic. I'm pretty much through all of the Batman related ones and may start watching the Justice League ones.

Can't wait for the Dark Knight to get on there one day.

Which animated movies do they have? The Dark Knight Returns movie from a couple years ago is excellent.

I have HBO Max. The DC section is getting better. It was pretty rough at launch. It's still missing quite a few things and hopefully those are brought over soon. WB needs to merge the DC Universe service with HBO Max. Give me that Mask of Phantasm.

Streaming licensing sucks. Harry Potter was such a large part of the launch marketing and that's already moved to Peacock. There are a few others that have moved as well. The best part of HBO Max is the TCM section.
