Yeah Joe Ross is the exact type of player we should be targeting. Young, controllable major leaguers

Now if he was half Italian like Cervelli, Lemieux, or Franco that would be a different story.

Around the diamond look at the 2015 minor league results.
This guy looks like a future high leverage reliever.

Overall strong year for the minor league system, even with lost seasons from Taillon and Kingham. Glasnow, Bell and Meadows all progressed. Moroff, Frazier and Brault established themselves as potential MLB roster additions. Luplow, Suchy, Munoz, Garcia and Tarpley all had strong seasons in the lower minors and position themselves to be breakout prospects in 2016. Looking for guys like McGuire and Newman to make strong jumps this year and enter discussion for top 100 MLB prospects.

Why? It's not like they're going to sign a sought after commodity at SP.

Would have like to see some Searage magic worked on Jeff Samardzija, but he will sign with the Giants. 5 years 90 million.

I haven't seen this shared here. Andrew McCutchen will be a free agent after the next three seasons. Based on how this team spends money you'll only have three more seasons to watch Cutch at PNC park. Just let that sink in.

Hopefully just two and then auctioned off.

I would love to never see Morton pitch again, but trading him would require the Pirates to look for an actual MLB pitcher as a replacement and not settle for the scrap heap projects they love.

Only downside of trading Morton is our rotation would be Cole-Liriano-Locke-?-?

Sign me up for Morton getting you a starting first baseman.
Starting pitcher market is wonky right now. It's really that there are starting pitchers that are differentiated and deserve to be paid. Then other guys are riding on their coat tails, even though their track record is just lingering above league average.

James Shields being shopped. Owed 63 mil over next 3 years. If SD ate about a bit of that I could see the Bucs making a move. Happ got 12 per year for comparison sakes.

I'd almost just wait out the SP market at this point.
Someone will probably pay Chen, Cueto is going to get $100+, and who knows what's going to happen with Maeda. Then there's gallardo, I think he gets Ervin Santana'd, where he turned down a QO and no one wants to give him a lot of money and lose their draft pick, so he ends up settling for a one year deal. Same with Kennedy, I think there's a good chance they both just end up going back to their 2015 clubs.
But anyway, it's safe to say that any pitcher tied to losing their first round pick (already down to 25th after five FA signings) will not be signed by the Pirates.
