DKPS has a partnership with WPXI. Not sure if money is exchanged, or if it’s it just quid pro quo exposure thing.

Didn't DK fill in for Madden on his radio show at times? I guess that is over.

Yes and yes. I assumed it was a fake feud, but I guess not.

So I guess DK won’t be on Channel 11’s Sunday night show anymore then? Madden is on 99% of episodes, so…
Silly me thinking DK would give up the exposure that easily. Plus if there is some sort of relationship between his site and the show….yeah, that wasn’t going to happen.

I didn’t really watch the show unless I remembered it was on, but now with it basically being “DKPS: The TV Show,” no thanks.

DK wasn't going to give up the show, because he lost the ability to give free constant promotion on Madden's show. When he would sub for Madden, he literally made it all about his subscribers, and talked about his site 24/7.

Oddly enough, he's put up more of a defense for this stuff, than he did the sexual harassment and misconduct allegations.

I don't understand if that's his gimmick anymore or not, but he's entering this hardcore gatekeeping thing that's actively turning me off on any of his opinions.

Pirates seemingly can do no wrong now in the FO - and technically, we haven't seen anything from these dudes but losing seasons. Just like the last regime, even though they're making "better" trades.
I'm willing to give this front office time. It's not going to turnaround over night. It will be a few years.

But yeah, DK's gatekeeping is annoying AF.
Front office means nothing when the money isn’t there.

Time means nothing when the team doesn’t have the option to spend. ****, “Money Ball” has been around for decades now and the Pirates still suck because they can’t compete with the big teams payrolls. For every Marlins fluke (2003) the big money players are in the hunt year after year.

Out of the last 10 World Series winners,

Five were in the top 5 in payroll and two had the highest payroll in the league.

The lowest payroll rank of the last 10 years winners was 12th by both the Astros and the Royals.

Unless the Pirates spend they will continue to be terrible while turning their owner a profit.

We'll give this statement a "partly true" grade.

https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/

With the caveat that the Rays and A's are definitely unique franchises that you can not imitate (NH didn't understand this, let's hope the BC does). So it doesn't really make sense to compare the bottom 10 payrolls with the top 10, the bottom 10 are not trying to compete. So compare the top 10 with 10-20.

6/10 competing for the playoffs in the top against 4/10 in the middle. And there are a couple of teams not really trying in that middle group. So I think the lesson is that if you actually try to win you spend more money and are more likely to be competitive. I think the bigger issues in baseball is how front offices are operationalized "multi-year" plans and tanking. Spending is a product of strategy, so it's not really the driving factor.

Some guy called in as Cody (Kody?), but pomp couldn't read if it was cody from north huntingdon or the north side. cody said it was the north side, then went on to say that it felt good to be back at the aviary and then made a bird noise and got cut off. pomp was annoyed and was like "thanks for the contribution" then went on to happily point out that they found Kodiak the hawk in north park. then he put two and two together and started to laugh because at first he didn't realize that it was a prank based on the bird.

I don't watch a lot of nightly sports call but I usually do after stiller losses. definitely a good prank call.

Kraig Riley on Da Fan has been promoted to Brand Manager at the station. Good for him. Mueller and Poni were saying Kraig is their new boss. That can't be true, right? Brand Manager is just marketing..

Isn't your on-air talent technically your "brand" or part of it?

True, a big part of it and a big reason why people tune into the shows. The morning show's content and interviews could be amazing (which it isn't, but just a hypothetical) but many people don't listen because of Pittsburgh Dad Jr..

Plum boy Pat McAfee just got paid today..Signed a new $30 mil a year deal with FanDuel. Jesus... https://nypost.com/2021/12/09/pat-mcafe ... duel-deal/

Retire from a career as a punter, start your own show, then sign this new deal. Making way more now than if he kept playing in the NFL. Smart move. Apparently he has already donated $6 million of this deal ot various charities. Good guy.

BTW, his promoted bets on FanDuel always lose of course..haha. They gotta make that money back somehow.

A real good friend of mine is a salesman. Really upbeat and outgoing. He also has the same Yinzer accent and cadence as Pat. Really cracks me up when I watch Pat's clips.

I met Pat when we were like 10 years old. My cousin and Pat’s brother were on the same soccer team and I went with my aunt and uncle to a tournament one weekend. Pat and I played together all day. He talked exactly the same 25 years ago that he does today.
