Mike Steele passed away last night.
He went to the ER April 23 and was diagnosed with colon cancer. Nine weeks later he is dead, Damn. RIP.

He started a GoFundMe page a month ago and raised over $12,000: https://www.gofundme.com/steele039s-recovery-fund

Sad.

Think it was Chris Mack and Hathorn on the morning show today. So much better than Pittsburgh Dad Jr. and his awful yinzer accent. I actually listened through a commercial break, which is a huge step in the right direction. Shame it's back to status-quo on Monday.

Nice change up for the morning show. Dunno if those lineup changes were due to vacations or testing the waters for future changes.

Jeff Hathhorn is also an extremely underappreciated talent on that network. Chris Mack is good, too. Another Penn State man.

Go figure the ones you don’t hear from much on there are the best.

Does this phenomenon exist in other sports markets? Like I'm sure there are tiffs between media personalities, but to this nonstop extent?

The “Bucco fanboy blogger” is an easy target for the big man. Especially 1. In this slow sports period and 2. With his blog failing and him seemingly kind of condemning the fans for it happening. Tim really is fighting an uphill battle.

iirc, back in philly during the mid 1990s Howard Eskin feuded with various other sports radio personalities...I think Mike Missinelli did too. Nothing on the troll level of Madden though.

Madden is a guy that you can just ignore when he talks Pirates. He clearly has inherent bias against the franchise, which isn't unjustified. But it's so blatant that it's not worth listening to him talk about them or respond to him when he goes after people covering the team. There is definitely a Pittsburgh contingent that will eat up Madden railing against the pirates because they share that sentiment and people love being validated.

As for Williams, for some reason he loves to engage in the muck and present himself as above it. He lauds himself for saying that the Pirates botched the 2016 offseason (I'd argue they didn't and challenge that accepted understanding that they should have done something there). My biggest gripe is that the Pirates don't know how to use money to make the team better. They are fielding mediocre rosters with upside at rebuilding level payrolls. He seems to accept the notion that the team is under strict payroll caps of ~100M, I think it's more that the team has player valuation methods that make the value added of a FA just a fraction of the cost (essentially, there's no player in expensive FA land that would be worth the price to upgrade over their in house options), I mean, how else can you explain Jordy Mercer being the starting shortstop for 6 years. They currently have a glut of affordable options on the ML roster and MLB capable players in AAA. I think the organization has painted itself into a corner, do you think they are going to sign a FA SS or 2B now that Newman and Kramer are both ready? No. Will they sign an expensive starter now with Keller about to break in to the majors? Not to mention the need to consider replacing Bell and Polanco. They need roster upgrades, and they need to be less risk averse with money and controllable assets to make those upgrades. I think their aversion to risk is excessive, while that's annoying, I don't think it's a reason to paint yourself into a corner of Pirate hate.

That's a good point. Eskin and Missanelli have been notorious for their spats and the greater spats between WIP and The Fanatic.

Howard Eskin is a cosmopolitan Ron Cook. 610 wip hooked me on sports radio. Garry Cobb, Jody McDonald, Glenn Macnow. I was never a fan of Cataldi; I listened to Stern in the mornings on YSP.
The current lineup on the FAN is beyond stale.

Out of that JanePitt thing - Madden did bring the heat with her too. She hasn't been relevant since she was fired from that web magazine years ago. She sucks too.

Tim Williams seems like a baby, but it seems with the whole public outreach for money thing - he's put himself directly in-line for criticism.

For a while I used to listen to Mike Missanelli pretty often on my drive home. I have not listened to Philly sports talk since the Eagles won the Super Bowl, and probably will not listen again until they are eliminated from contention this year. It's not fun anymore.
