I still cant believe that Rossi’s career didn’t shoot though the roof when he started to write for “upgruv”
did he leave City Paper already?
Yes.

looking at a few of those pics, how long was Rossi there? Was he there in the 90s/00s, left, and then came back for a few months before leaving again?

Or has he always stuck around and never really left?

I think those pictures are recent but from some app that puts a filter on them. I think Rossi started this glorious career at the Trib.

I thought he left the CP gig to write Malkin’s biography? I guess it’s hard to pass up six figures from the Athletic as they scoop up all the castoffs

One of the dudes i work with listens to da fan for his entire work day. 8 hours of the fan. Five days a week. Every day.
Jesus I would go insane. How does he work through all the commercials, updates, promo spots, and the hosts that like hearing themselves talk? Good thing Zeise isn’t on earlier in the day or your co-worker would probably be beaten up.

New promo heard on the Fan today during the PM Team: “You don’t buy tools from a bakery. Why would you get sports news from a music station?” So they don’t even consider themselves sports talk?

Obviously a swipe at Madden. And then the PM Team is seriously talking about lining Bell as a slot receiver when he comes back. Oy.

The PM Team hasn’t had a non-Conner v. Bell convo in three days.

It is honestly agonizing. Every time I come on they have a new scenario how these two can co-exist. Is this really what the gen-pop of Pittsburgh wants to discuss?

They have a segment or two during the week just devoted to fantasy football so it seems likely. Madden beats them in that demographic anyway.

I usually listen to the first hour of the PM Team and I rarely hear them take callers. Do they take any during the rest of their show?

GD Pittsburgh Dad Jr. and his constant yelling of MURRAY FLEURY MURRAY FLEURY, playing the idiotic Steigerwald doing this cringe-inducing chant, and his and his gd goalie controversy sound byte can go right to hell. He's literally the ONLY person entertained by it.

Great point just brought up by MM - James Conner, who sucked in weeks 2, 3 and 4, is this hero cancer survivor - but so is Olli Maatta - and suuuure does seem like more people are quicker to throw Maatta under the bus, huh?

(Note: I like Conner and think he can be really good - just want to see consistency)

So TheAthletic hired Rob Rossi, practically kept it under wraps and didn't announce it and Seth Rorabaugh was defending the decision in the comments of Rossi's first article.
I wanted to wait and allow things to cool down before offering my $0.02.

1.) Rob's role with us will be as an enterprise writer. That means he will cover all sports and won't be on a beat. We expect him to operate in the same fashion Katie Strang does for our Detroit site or Tom Reed for the Cleveland/Columbus site(s).
2.) Rob is more than capable of that type of work. As a former (and now, current) co-worker, I can attest to that. I can't speak for his work at any other employer. It's not my place. I can tell you he will be performing a completely different task than he had with his previous outlet.
3.) Any errors in copy are on me. I read/edit most of the Pittsburgh copy (outside of the occasions I am not available). Grief for that can be directed at me.
4.) If anyone has any other concerns, and clearly you do, please direct them to me via e-mail: srorabaugh@theathletic.com. I will be happy to address them in a 1-on-1 fashion.
Thank you.
It doesn't stop any of it from being a trash hire. The fact that TheAthletic didn't do the parade of discounts and announcements, pretty much tells you all you need to know.

Both my DK subscription and Athletic subscription run out in 2-3 months. Can't say I'll ever pay for news again.

This just prob inflates Rossi's ego and makes him feel more important than he is. He likes to think he's playing the city sports media's big heel, when in reality people just don't like him because he sucks and is unlikable.

This is a good example of some dis-functioning mental workings. MM is paid to ramble on for hours a day, so it can probably be expected that he would spout out unfiltered stream of conscious dribble. The interesting aspect here is that a take that doesn't survive one shred of scrutiny would resonate in someones brain long enough to be recited on a message board.

Bravo.

Wish I could read those comments but you don’t even get a freebie article. Maybe I’ll subscribe for one day and then cancel.

Going by Robert Rossi tells you all you need to know.

IIRC it wasn't MM who brought this up yesterday. It was a caller and Madden quasi agreed that one is celebrated to a ridiculous amount, when Olli had his own battles and it's pretty much forgotten. I don't recall anything being made more than that.

We need a Mueller Inflated Word Bingo or something. Yesterday he mentioned the word “narrative” like four times in 30 seconds, two instances of “Flabbergasted” on two separate talking points and then two instances of “ethos”. I think he says “ethos” everyday.

I wish my job wasn’t so boring and I didn’t listen to this.

Mueller certainly comes off as a try-hard guy, trying to sound super smart with his equally bad takes.

Mueller has somehow emerged as the worst part of The PM Team. That show is completely unlistenable.
