New hockey writer hired at DKPS: https://www.dkpittsburghsports.com/2018 ... dy-tucker/

Cody Tucker previously a ....college football writer. This dude may be great and does know hockey, but much was made at making sure they made the right choice and a DK criticism of Katie Brown was that she didn't know the game...ok then. Cody is moving his family here from Michigan. Hopefully it works out.

Oh, and there is this nugget:
"The way this process worked, Dale and Dali had final say and, because of my background in the hockey community, I did a lot of the fishing. Some of that was reaching out to some great professionals in the Professional Hockey Writers Association — thanks to Kevin Allen of USA Today and Ken Campbell of The Hockey News, in particular — and some of that was personally contacting people.

Cody, naturally, was none of the above. Dude didn’t even know we had a job opening.

He sent me a direct message via Twitter about three weeks ago saying he loved what we were doing, what we’re all about, and asked to be kept in mind if we ever had an opening."

Dude didn't even know there was a job open. Wonder how much he read the site in the first place.

... so DK is admitting they hired a guy who knows nothing about the sport which he will be covering, after firing a national hockey writer because she "didn't know what she was talking about"?

"because of my background in the hockey community, I did a lot of the fishing. and of course found someone outside the hockey community" nice search DK :facepalm

They have gone the unconventional route before and didn't really work i.e Sara Civian hired to cover the Pirates. We'll see

Yeah, that was my thought when I read that last weekend. Seriously, he couldn't get a headshot without a beer in it?

I think this hire solidifies for me that DK's site took a massive hit from that deadspin article in terms of professionals being interested in what he's doing, The Athletic putting a stranglehold on the area, or he's just lost growth momentum. Maybe all of the above, but his site is an afterthought right now and I usually don't even think to go there.

I know, looks like a football guy doing that.

Hah, user 'jmbell' from the article's comments:

"Chugging a beer, wearing a Wyoming jersey, and has tattoos all over his body. Impressive if he’s your college frat buddy you go to bars with to talk sports, but not so much if he’s employed as a professional sports writer assigned to your beat coverage for one of the most successful and relevant sports franchises in the country currently. I’ll be willing to wait and see, but I am disenchanted with the early impressions I get of this guy via the eye test, to say the least."

Heard that, then clicked over to Pittsburgh Dad Jr. crying about the golf tournament he played in and I just listened to silence the rest of the way. This town has awful morning radio.

Krenn was far superior to Baumann in every way. Krenn leaving that show dropped it down below 96.1 standards. Only recently did I start listening again, and I still feel the same way.

I caught three minutes of TFMS and if I understood correctly, Pittsburgh Dad Jr. was talking about how he's going to start keeping track of how many consecutive days the PG obituary page includes at least one mention of the Steelers in at least one individual obituary. This was presented as some hilarious insight into the Pittsburgher psyche and its love of the local football team.

So

Do you people not have an iPod or AUX cord or Bluetooth that you can throw on in the mornings?

Sure - I certainly do. Most mornings I just want to hear light conversation about something relevant. Most of the podcasts I listen to, I like to be fully attentive to, so I wait until the afternoon, which is why I don't b*tch about Madden nearly as much. Something I'm not totally dialed into in the morning.

I still think throughout all of that, my point still stands that morning radio here is trash.

My commute is one that it can either be 15 minutes which is just long enough to cover a WDVE/WXDX commercial break, or an hour. Sometimes I don't bother to set my bluetooth and then get caught listening to Mark Madden commercials all morning.

Turned on the afternoon show a little bit ago. they were in the middle of some steelers talk, somehow immediately turned into a yinzer circle jerk with cook and hagman talking about what Lynn Swann's stats would be if he were getting "20" targets a game, like apparently some receivers get. #1 WR's get around 10 target per game.

Sometimes I just want to hear some conversation in the mornings or want to hear what people are talking about from some event the night before. With the Fan, its like watching a car crash. Gotta stop and look (listen)

Cookie is by himself this week because Poni is on vacation. I get that it is hard to fill four hours when nothing else really to talk about except the sinking Buccos, but its bad.
