Collapsing/swallowing l’s and especially double ll’s — to the point where it’s a semi-W sound in extreme cases — is a linguistic characteristic I’ve noticed in western Pa. Ellen can become “eh-win” alley becomes “in the back ahwee”

This specific thing imo seems much more city proper and immediate neighboring townships and boroughs (like Sharpsburg and Etna) compared to the much more twangy stuff you get when you reach the second and third suburban rings
Makes sense since PDJ is the king of Sharpsburg

Not sure what ring Westmoreland county is in, probably doesn't pass the slappy test regardless. But our A's go long and there is no way in hell you would get a W in alley...

Bob Grove was famous for this - every time we played the Ahhw-inders. Drove me nuts.

How do you think the honeywagon got to the aht-haas? Every generation we've had since coming over has lived in the same coal patch.

Is Mackey on the Pirates beat for good, or just for summer?

He is on it for good. Bill Brink has moved to another beat at the PG.

So Mackey will be gone relatively soon, I'd imagine.

Dave Molinari is the new Pens beat writer at DK Pittsburgh Sports. Always thought it odd that a Hall of Fame writer in hockey got moved to the PSU beat.

Wow. Nice pick up for DK.

I'll have to start following Molinari again. When he went on PSU beat had to unfollow.

I'm sure he's a great writer but his Twitter account is insufferable.

Dude tries way too hard to be funny,to the point where he isn't.

I guess this has been in the works for awhile when Bradford got kicked off. I was doubting they would role with Taylor on he beat.

lol @ the PG. in a span of two months they lose Bouchette and Molinari to internet sites. I thought those two would hang on at the PG until retirement. Wonder what Rom Cook will do.

Still not enough to get me to re-up DK's site.

So Pittsburgh Dad Jr. today said “I have no doubt Jimmy Garoppolo would’ve been a Hall of Famer if he stayed in New England. “

Wow..based on what, exactly?
