Has anyone ever tried to get in on the lottery for Pappy Van Winkle bourbon?

gin and scotch? mixed? or tequilla shots? you best not be taking shots of scotch... scotch is meant to be enjoyed, slowly, neat, like a man.

Oh no, not mixed. Scotch on the rocks or neat. Gin and tonic, or ginger ale. Tequilla as shots or in a margarita.

An old classic I haven't had in ages this evening, The Macallan 12.
Quality kick-off, slapjax.

I must have waded through a bottle over the last 3 days in NYC. So money.

Sippin on some Talisker 10 this evening. Not the best scotch I've ever had, but not terrible.
That's exactly how it strikes me, too. Good, probably won't get another bottle.

I feel the same way about the Scapa that I have now.

I added about a tablespoon of water to tonight... tones down the peat and really brings the fruit out. Way better with a bit of water than neat.

One bourbon, one scotch and one beer. But seriously, give me gin and scotch or tequilla shots. Patron Espresso is heaven. Works good on vanilla ice cream, too.
First off, tom, you and I are neighbors, so that's awesome.

Second, the Thorogood is what I order first at the bar downstairs at Souper Bowl before Pens games. Beam, Black, Bass.

So I've started making shrubs. I'm unveiling a new one tonight: blackberry raspberry. I'm concerned I made it too syrupy due to too much cane sugar so we will see how it goes

This is my kind of thread.

I have a bottle of Jura Prophecy open just now. 46.5% and it tastes lovely. :P
Very jealous.

If I recall correctly, you are in the homeland for Scotch. I really hope to one day take a scotch tour of the distilleries with my boys sans wives

Yeah, I do indeed live in Scotland. Give me a call if you ever make it over!

Distillery tours are great, we visited the Isle of Arran a couple of years back during their whisky and music festival. Great fun and lots of good malt. Hoping to get back there later in the year after our baby is born.

Scotch distillery tour is definitely on my bucket list. Want to go somewhere on Islay, looks so awesome there.

Knob Creek, eh? I don't drink a ton of Bourbon, but it's awesome such a widely available bourbon won.

A shrub is a century-old(or millennia-old depending on who you ask) method of combining fruit + sugar + vinegar and letting of sit for a few days. You can then drink straight, with seltzer, or with cocktails. I had been doing apple cinnamon shrub for a while. Mix it with bourbon, grand Marnier and a little lemon juice. Lavender blueberry shrub (still perfecting this) with gin and st germains and lavender bitters. I just made blackberry raspberry that is too sweet but it's good with just vodka or gin straight. I put it with sparkling wine last night and t was very tasty.

has anyone tried (or found a place to buy) stuff from bruichladdich? Was reading about how this is a pretty new (compared to most distilleries) distillery, and I find it interesting how their line is formed. Seems like they have no peat, some peat, and lots of peat offerings which is way different than most other distilleries do it where it's pretty much "here's our stuff... don't like it? go find a different scotch."

If I ever get rich, I'll send you guys lots of malts. :)

Love the Black, really love the Bass (probably my favorite beer), but not so much the Beam. Prefer JD Single Barrel.

Tweaking the Scapa with a small splash of ginger beer, big rock. Seems to be helping. Scapa is ok, but lacks a firmer identity and body.

Bulleit was on sale for $25 at the Joe Canals near Princeton. Picked up their bourbon.

Went out with Mrs Tif last night to a local gastropub called Tipple & Brine. Had a cocktail called 7 Years At Sea....... Flor de Caña rum, lime, ginger, honey, bitters, Plantation overproof rum float. It was exceptional.
