Why? Because T&F is awesome. And the World Championship is currently going on.

And because I feel sorry for the poor young lady. A stupid mental mistake after running a great 10K race...

I don't feel bad for her. I feel like rule 1 of track should be "never celebrate until you pass the finish line"

I ran a race this summer and pulled up just like that costing me 3rd place and a medal.

Had she been watching me, this mistake could have been avoided.

Isn't there a fricking Jumbotron to watch the yourself getting closed in on?

Gotta see if my boy Tegenkamp qualified. We raced against each other in high school and together on an AAU team for a year.

Of course she should not have celebrated. On the other hand, I can say that those few times I finished 10K runs, I don't think I was thinking too clearly the last few minutes... (The one time I ran the Pittsburgh Great Race, my last coherent memory was passing the Cathedral of Learning :) )

No idea why nobody complained and why she did not get disqualified.

I saw races where the runners got DQd for stepping just a few inches over...

This thread should overtake the UPS "discussion" pretty quickly. @slappybrown

"From No. 2 to No 1."

The most badass victory of the 2015 World Championship - Matej Toth, the first-ever T&F Gold in the history of Slovakia. Toth won the 50K walk by about 2 minutes. But what's even more impressive? Midway through the race, he found out that he had to go, you know, so he went! :)

Took him 30 seconds. No word on how many squares...

1.) Runners are weird.

2.) There's zero chance that doesn't hurt like hell.

I had to watch it three times, which isn't saying much for his endowment.

IAAF officially agree to change name to World Athletics after debate
Sebastian Coe, officially re-elected as IAAF President for a second four-year term yesterday, told the Congress that the change was necessary to help make the sport more appealing to youngsters.

Jarrion Lawson‘s athletic career depends on whether he can establish, with actual evidence, three things.

1) At some point last year, a cow was injected with trenbolone — a substance perfectly legal for cows in the United States, but banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency globally.

2) The injection occurred somewhere other than the ear.

3) On June 1, 2018, at a Japanese steakhouse in Arkansas, Lawson subsequently ate a meal that included meat from that cow.

A very interesting article about a recent doping case of an American long-jumper (and, in fact, one of my former students - not that I knew him much, though). I still don't know whether to believe the story, because "contaminated beef" has been used as an excuse 1,000+ times before. What bothers me, though, is that I ate in the steakhouse mentioned in the article many times before - and if it is thus so easy to eat beef (allegedly) contaminated by such a strong steroid, then... :scared:

I used my superhuman powers to secure a really good rate (allegedly top 10%) on my life insurance thanks to my top-notch health exam results. I guess I should feel lucky that the urine test did not include doping substances detection!?!
(Luckily, I eat very little beef/red meat these days - and even then it's the grass-fed organic farmer's market stuff...)

So you’re answer is literally “...but I just saved 15% on my insurance with Geico.”

The total attendance at the last World Championship - two years ago - in London was 750,000.

Meanwhile, in Qatar...
after the greatest 10.83 seconds of Dina Asher-Smith’s life, the British sprinter grabbed a union flag from her mother, Julie, and began a lap of honour to celebrate her world championship 100m silver medal. But as she trotted round the 40,000-seat Khalifa stadium in Doha on Sunday night she was greeted by banks of empty seats and a ghostly silence.

Observers reckoned there were no more than 1,000 people still in attendance and many of them were journalists tapping away to deadline. Asher-Smith’s mother later tweeted she had seen more spectators at England Athletics’ age-group championships in Bedford.
José María Odriozola, a Spanish IAAF executive well-versed in the lingua franca of sports politics, cut to the heart of the matter. “All Doha have is money,” he said.
