:(

Wonder where this puts him healthcare coverage wise. He's a free agent with no team paying the bills. Does the NFLPA help pick up the tab for active but out of work players with medical issues or is he going to be stuck footing the bill out of pocket?

IIRC health insurance (as opposed to medical insurance for things like injuries) is covered as part of the NFLPA CBA. I believe it extends a couple years after your last game, so I think FAs are covered by that.

Ravens trading Jackson to Colts for 4th pick.

Maybe.

Has Rodgers been traded to the Jets yet? I heard it was a done deal, per ESPN, like two weeks ago.

I bet he's a Colt, and I bet they shoehorn him into an offense that doesn't work lol.

Just a ridiculous mistake to not have an agent. Lamar already came off dumb as a box of rocks before this, but man, what a mistake.

Ben commented about it on his podcast, basically saying that he could have been doing 2 year deals making the money he was looking for in the meantime. But now he's out tens of millions of dollars because of poor decisions that goes with the territory of simply not having an agent.

It's outright dumb at Jackson's level to not have an agent; he's not buying a house from someone he may never meet, these are owner-level discussions (or at least should be, I gather no one's actually talking to him at all right now,)

Bell cost himself whatever the tag money was that year, iirc $14mil, plus I think a year on the contract term (not guaranteed). The full extent of Jackson's foolishness won't really be known until he signs (be it tender or trade), but in his case he has already claimed he turned down 3/$133mil fully guaranteed.

This is actually one of those times where I actually question the NFL and blackballing a guy for whatever random reason. Nobody wanted this guy to be a QB in the league, everyone questioned it, he had major concerns, and proved them all wrong. Now people are worried about his sleep schedule and eating habits? Sure, he's had knee injuries, but the guy is a former MVP - it's almost as if he has zero respect amongst any owner out there. It's a weird case.

Owners have signed and made dumber trades for less of a QB. Deshaun getting that fully guaranteed contract really did wreck owners and seeing them course correct over it to me appears to be very negative.

That was per Trey Wingo of NFL Network. You must need some more indicators on the tweets

Peyton Manning had neckmeat issues and missed what, a full year at Indy and he still came out to the games to cheer on Curtis Painter.

Jackson had what is a pretty suspect injury and didn't travel with the team for a playoff game.

I think character counts, and it counts against him here.

You can be like the Browns and completely ignore character. If they guy is healthy, and has an agent that trained their whole life to do negotiations.

Jackson has neither.

First, I think we should ignore all comps to Deshaun Watson. Owners simply will not abide that as a market setter, and I think all 31 other owners would gladly fire Haslam into the sun for his lack of wisdom.

Actual for-real quarterbacks with brains and arms to match have a skill set that gets better with age, and lasts longer than the mere physical tools. You can back up the Brinks truck for that kind of 25-year old because they will be even better at 30. They are force multipliers, which is why schmoes like Daniel Jones get paid despite not being "boxoffice".

Jackson, otoh, has a diminishing skill set. Not only is he unlikely to be better at 30 than he is now, he's already not as good as he was as a rook. I think the injury stuff is a factor, but secondary. Couple that w some imaginative $$$ demands, and you have what you have.

Based on the offense, and the lack of throwing talent. I think Jackson might be better a few years from now if he had someone to throw to other than a TE and a diva like Brown.

Ravens offense has been annoying that fanbase longer than ours, he's absolutely worth a contract if you can get the right situation for him.

Like, there are teams like the Jets willing to bring in Aaron Rodgers, who's objectively a **** person, who hasn't been good for a few years, and hasn't done anything in the playoffs since his SB win. So even the character conversation, is kind of moot to me.

NFL hasn't really cared about character in ages, as evidenced by all the criminals getting big contracts, and people willing to overlook all kinds of things.

Maybe character was the wrong word. You can be a shitty person but you have to still go to the stadium.

Yeah, I don't think teams/owners really care much about a superstar being a dbag away from the stadium, but if there is any truth to the 'rumors' that he basically gave up on the team at the end of last year...and the reason was a little bit of injury and a little bit of self-preservation since he didn't have a contract...that could be a huge turnoff for any team looking to invest long-term.

He is dynamic, but I don't think he's a top 5ish QB, and he's likely to fall down the list as the years go on. He is a unique talent, for sure, but that also means that teams have to restructure their entire Offensive strategy to accommodate his unique talent, which isn't easy to do in the short term, and he may not be worth it in the long term.

The Raven's afforded him the best scenario with that regard, but he feels he's worth more than they offered. Guess we'll find out...and I think it's very smart of the Ravens to shop him/stand firm on their offer.
