Is it 5afs official stance that we know more than the doctors who examined him?

They stated up and down it was a back injury.

You don't do *that* if you have a back injury.

Also, since when are NFL docs above reproach? Haven't multiple team docs been sued in the last 5 years or so because they forced players to return before they were ready, leading to further injury?

Not to mention the whole concussion lawsuit...

Notice how many times they mentioned "movement in his extremities"? That was a directive from above, no doubt about it.

Establish a positive narrative (despite the dozen horrible/soulless subplots to this story) , back it up with the rah rah bullsht from the analysts, and you calm most of the slobbering masses back down to consume more football in the second half.

God I hate this league.

I don't know if I would trust an entire league that has avoided taking any real responsibility when it comes to head injuries, even though they've gotten better - you don't know what was said or discussed or overlooked. I do think an investigation is warranted.

Hurr hurr.

Yes, let's trust the science from a sport league that pretends concussions don't exist and don't cause lifelong problems and has already paid out nearly $800 million in lawsuit money related to its hand-waving over concussion issues previously. The NFL is soooooo trustworthy.

This would involve them misdiagnosing injury #1 in real time. Okay, maybe. It can happen. Then they double down on it during the week.. ehh that seems pretty illegal. Then they would have to clear him to play tonight just to cover themselves because they misdiagnosed him twice, because that would make it look better? That's a lot. Or, maybe it just wasn't a concussion. Remember when Sid ended up not actually having one? There are other injuries.

The concussion lawsuit is actually a knock against your argument because I think it's safe to assume they're under much more scrutiny now

Who knows, I'm on the side of "if he's cleared, he's cleared, but certainly someone should maybe investigate the protocols that were taken, because this became a top headline for the remainder of the week."

Surely the NFL wants to get in front of it.

What are they investigating? Their own guy? Isnt there an independent NFL doctor that had to also clear him?

The plot thickens. The Dolphins and the independent doctor conspired together to fake the diagnosis

My guess is second impact syndrome, in which case his career is potentially over.

Dolphins were +175 despite being undefeated...against Cincinnati. Was Tua getting hurt planned...? Trap the bettors. Short squeeze. Fix = in. #FollowTheMoney

I bet Burrow with 250+ passing and over 1.5 passing TDs.

Thanks for that last TD!

+115 but I’ll take it.

That's pretty good value in a game where the o/u was 49 and the Bengals were favored and Mixon has like 2.6 ypc or something this year...I would placed that bet had I had seen it...

Yup. I use it. But I had practice tonight and by the time I remembered that there was a game tonight, I was already at the rink...and for some reason, that app thinks that I'm no longer in the state of NY when I'm at the rink, so...

It's all for the best anyhow because at +175, I would have bet Miami...not because I like them, but because that's good value in a toss up game...

the people claiming that the league/Dolphins hired corrupt doctors to let Tua back on is pretty funny. This is, as expected, awful PR for them. Why they would let a player back on the field “knowing” he was concussed is silly imo

much more likely, if he did sustain a concussion last week, is that the tests are just flawed, he passed them and the medical staff didn’t have any reason other than “it looked bad” to keep him off the field. The concussion protocols/tests probably need an overhaul or at least a “it didn’t look good so we need to keep you off the field” contingency but imagine how pissed off a Patrick Mahomes will be that he passed the concussion test but wasn’t let back on the field anyway

I would suspect and agree it's probably more of an overhaul needed than anything. This is a league the fought older players and wouldn't admit to the NFL causing mass head injuries, so I'll sh*t in one hand and wish in the other and see what happens first.

People have played dumb on their pre-concussion baseline tests for years so that when they do get knocked out there's less chance of them getting held out no matter how badly their brain is scrambled.

he comes off as performatively indignant to me. McDaniel didn’t say anything wrong. A concussion is much better than fears of paralysis or something
