Yeah, I mean, they aren't playing blindfolded.
Some teams have to deal with zamboni doors on different ends and what not...some teams have longer benches where they can get off the bench and be offside...some teams don't have access to their locker room from behind their own bench and they have to cross the ice to get players back...this is the level of stuff we're talking about here...
Designated hitter is probably five magnitudes above anything we're talking about...but one's a dynasty in the making and one's kosher...? I don't know man...

I like how the endgame scenario here is snipers murdering players during ball games.
(It should be noted that in such a scenario you could skirt the field-of-play question entirely by placing the snipers not on the foul pole but in a skyscraper across the street, thus avoiding any pesky rules interpretation issues re 'home field advantage'.)

Well yeah, those examples are nothing. They barely have anything to do with actual game play. Kind of like baseball where if the ball gets stuck in the ivy, it's a ground rule double. Just a little extra explanation of the rules of the game, not a complete remodeling of the field in play.Yeah, I mean, they aren't playing blindfolded.

Some of these things can't be avoided, as stadiums/arenas/whatever are still archaic and haven't been upgraded. Fine, whatever. But I don't want to see a new era of stadiums being built with silly little nuances built in just for the sake of having some quirky playing surface. These are bajillionaire owners getting stadiums funded by the public, not high school teams with no budget that have to play on a Martian surface.

I don't think football has much of a history of oddities in the field of play, and if it did it's long since been sanitized out of it. The only thing I can think of are the old baseball infields in dual purpose stadiums. Baseball stadiums have always had quirks, hills, flag poles in play, ivy, the green monster, numerous short porches because of trying to fit a field inside an existing city block. Those quirks originally existed for a reason, and I'm ok with continuing the tradition even if its not necessary.
Trying to create a brand new one just for the sake of it is cheap though.

I loved the field goal posts in the middle of the end zone. Yikes.

I had this discussion a few weeks ago, and coincidentally it was about the War Memorial. We were trying to figure out the old dimensions when we used to skate there. You can still see where they filled in the corners with new wheelchair accessible areas. If I were to guess, it was probably 200 x 90. It doesn't look like they had to extend the rink when they made everything uniform, but they noticeably narrowed it by a few feet on each side. I have some old Jets and Chiefs stuff I can look through and probably find out.The whole "neutralize" conditions thing is WacArnolds to me...I like that baseball has different parks. I wish there were more intricacies to NHL rinks these days like the old Boston Garden and War Memorial Auditorium...
Watching those AFC West matchups late on a Sunday where the Raiders are playing on a baseball field...I wish they would have left the mound and the bases...**** it...
Anyways...
I agree with what you're saying. I think they should have a baseline rinksize and let the teams deviate +/- 10 ft from the standard size. Would be interesting to have teams going from a shorter rink with international width one night to a long sheet with standard width the next, then finishing their roadie on a short, narrow sheet where everything is locked down from the lack of space. Would it realistically work? Tbh, probably not. The two biggest strikes would be arenas having to remove a row of high dollar seats and/or relocating season ticket holders. But it would be easier to implement on newer arenas.

As I was reading that I immediately thought "they'll just make the ice the minimum size and put in more seats."

Tax records show that in 2018, the foundation gave the USM Athletic Foundation $60,000. Every other organization received $10,000. In 2019, the USM Athletic Foundation received $46,817. The next highest donation, to the Special Olympics of Mississippi, was $11,000. The next year, Favre 4 Hope donated $26,175 to the USM Athletic Foundation while no other organization received more than $10,000.

see…that interception is where Tua’s arm strength really hurts. The ball sat up there for the free safety to get underneath it
