I have no idea what their thinking internally considering they just hired a head coach...but the message board seems set on either Barkley or Chubb. As we don't draft a small, fast WR I'm good...@mikey, do you know if the Horsies are targeting Barkley in the draft?

Stunner: Patriots’ OC Josh McDaniels has decided NOT to accept Colts’ HC job and will remain with New England, sources told ESPN.

So the Colts are left to piss into the wind now? Who is even available?

I'm sure those assistants love McDaniels right now.Josh McDaniels is staying with the New England Patriots despite agreeing to become the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, but that decision came down to the wire. The problem for the Colts, among others, is that the decision wasn't as difficult for the coaches McDaniels wanted to bring with him for his new staff.
In fact, they were all so bullish on joining him with his new team that they already have already signed contracts according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. According to that report, those assistant coaches are now likely to stay with the Colts regardless of who the new head coach becomes. The even crazier part, to show how close McDaniels actually came to becoming the head coach of the Colts, is that according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, McDaniels was calling coaches and offering them jobs as late as today. His mind was truly changed at the last second.

What a mess is right...
McDaniels, I'm guessing, has been assured he'll take over for BB after next season like Jason Garrett in Dallas...so he'll get that job...
As for Indianapolis...I mean, technically, Jim Harbaugh only works Saturdays...soooo...

McDaniels wrecked the Broncos and went tail tucked back to the Patriots. Then he did the same to the Colts without even leaving his office in New England. Amazing.

Hopefully they have keyman clauses that can void the agreements if they were sold a bill of goods.Holy hell...what a mess.

I would take a run at him. His marriage ye olde alma mater hasn't gone as smooth as they would have liked. I doubt he takes the job but 12mm/year? He's listening and he's connected to the franchise. What a mess is right...

The Colts' HC job was the primo job opening in the NFL, and that was known two months before the season ended. McDaniels and Luck (plus the potential addition of a piece like Barkley) had the potential to be gangbusters, obviously depending the injury situation. As a fan of the game, I was actually excited by the prospect of this playing out.
I can't imagine Darth Belechick putting in a good word for McDaniels to an AFC team with that kind of upside without knowing he had an ace up his sleeve. Something like "I'm gonna peace out this year, win or lose in the Superb Owl.... I want you to handle the New England Patriots when I leave." Because he knows the Tombrady train is about to derail, Tom V Time be damned, and he wants it known that when the Pats have success after his departure, it will be because his guy running his system kept things in place. (And oh, btw, in the process we will get to stick it to the team that's most likely to be our biggest road block for the next five years, and who also were the prime movers behind Deflategate. Eff those guys.)
Or it could just be that McDaniels found out Luck's shoulder really is trash and he'll never take another snap in the NFL.
I'm all in on the conspiracy stuff with these guys. It's fun. But I like the Tif's Razor approach, where the most complicated and improbable explanation for a set of facts is the correct one.
