I've never had the chance to really sit down and evaluate it formally. I imagine I'd have a shortlist though that would include Manning, Tarkenton, Brady, Marino, maybe Montana or Brees, I doubt the level of competition would allow Baugh...but in terms of real needle-movers, I think you probably get down to Manning, Tarkenton, Marino, maybe Brees, pretty quickly...This doesn't have anything to do with hockey. Who's your #1?
My gut tells me, without really doing the work, that it's Peyton Manning. He's the most accomplished as a player, he's the most technically skilled QB of all time of any that I have seen, and he's won championships...he also accomplished all this against how many top 10 QBs of all time? Brady, Brees, Rodgers...
It's like Yzerman trying to keep up with Gretzky and Mario...but really (though, very, very vaguely), Manning is probably Gretzky, Brees is probably Mario, Brady is probably Yzerman...not quite on that level technically, but had better coaching and better teams around him...it's just kind of a reverse career, Brady got way better later in his career, way more productive, much more of a needle-mover...Yzerman's last years were more like Brady's first...

He wins 0 probably. Vertical offense. Required too many long throws, had inconsistent running games (anything post-Edge) and rarely a defense...35 points was necessary, and Brady just wasn't built for that...Does Brady on those Colts teams win at least one ring? Maybe more? I think so.

Alright so we finally have an answer to compare. Manning vs Brady. Their careers overlapped for the most part and took part in the same era. Let's take a look
Manning - Led the league in yards 3x, TDs 4x, 7X 1st team all pro, 5X MVP, 1x SBMVP, 65% completion, 2.7% int, 7.7 y/a, 96.5 passer rating
Brady - Led the league in yards 3x, TDs 4x, 3X 1st team all pro, 3X MVP, 5x SBMVP, 64% completion, 1.8% int, 7.5 y/a, 97.3 passer rating
Manning with some better peak years per all-pro/MVP standards but judging by years as league leaders they're a wash. Brady has the most yards and TDs of all time, with a materially less interception percentage. This is without getting into the 7 for 10 Super Bowl thing...

Very pro-Manning start, but way too binary.
Example: Crosby: 2x MVP, led league in goals x2, led league in assists x1, led league in pts x2. First-Team AS x3.
Henrik Sedin: 1x MVP, led league in assists x3, led league in pts x1. First-Team AS x2.
Henrik Sedin, is, what, maybe a top 200 player of all time...? 250? 300? Crosby is like 9th or whatever...looking at this, you'd think they were really, really close...

As a 49ers fan... I can only assume this means that they like a QB and Jimmy G is going somewhere else....

I'm assuming they want Zach WIlson (lynch was just at his pro day), but will also be ok with Fields... those are QB's 2 and 3 after Lawrence right?

The choices would most likely be Trey Lance or Justin Fields, according to SI.

If the pats didn’t start every season with a guaranteed playoff birth, and if the best QB in their division during Brady’s tenure wasnt Chad Pennington, the legend of Brady and the Pats would be diminished.
They started every season knowing they didn’t have to try. The residual advantages of that luxury are immense.

QBs are going to go 1-2-3 and I'm willing to bet only Lawrence has a good career
some teams go bonkers for top 5 QBs and most of them don't pan out. I hope the Broncos don't make a dumb trade to move up and grab the last of the 4 top QBs

I don't think Fields is good enough to play at the NFL level. I also thought the same about Lamar, so time will tell.

Dolphins are going to have a ton of picks to build around Tua.

Anywho.. I've always backed Jimmy G, and the 49ers are already saying Jimmy is still their guy this year blah blah. In any event you don't trade all of that capital for anyone else other than someone you think is a franchise QB. Maybe they keep Jimmy around this year and let the other guy learn for a year, but this is a move to get a franchise QB for the future.

Lamar is still unproven imo. If he never learns to throw the ball well then defenses will game plan for his legs and he won't be muchI don't think Fields is good enough to play at the NFL level. I also thought the same about Lamar, so time will tell.
I don't understand why the Ravens didn't throw money at Golladay or another FA WR. They legitimately need help there

If you can't the ball to these guys, just spend money on o-line and runners...they might as well be a triple option team...Lamar is still unproven imo.
