But really no one gets taught this when you think about it...I got taught how to bake cookies more times in high school than I did how to budget my finances...
My mom has two giant pet peeves she's carried with her as long as I can remember. 1) Place kickers who miss chip shots ("you have one job!"); and 2) the fact that at no point in your high school education are you taught how to write a check and balance a checkbook.

We had a required personal finance class in 9th grade. Kids couldn’t figure out how to balance a checkbook.

Discussions like this inevitably lead to the Chris Rock bit about 'rich' vs 'wealthy'.

Go buy yourself a bouncing car! Bling bling!

That's a very old sentence, but yes, the point is right on. I know about The Townshend Acts, but like I got nothing on like, "here's a couple of things that like maybe you're not thinking about..."

And, sure, most people have parents and all...and they should play a bigger role than a school. But even just as an elective...I mean, home ec, study hall, I took God damn typing class in the mid-2000s*...I wasted plenty of time doing nonsense...I would have sat through a thing about like how to cheat on your taxes, what a job search is like, that it's ok not to go to college but still continue your education in a skilled trade, how to know if the acid you bought in the bathroom at that Rusted Root concert is legit or not, etc.

* - I typed faster than everyone in my class. So I usually typed, c&p'd it into WinPopUp (one of my favorite underrated native Win95 tools), sent it to my friends and then cut the class to go play kickball. Two gym periods? Score.

I don’t recall ever having the option of a finance class in school, but at the end of the day, it should be a mandatory course for everyone.

We had a class in the social studies department that taught stuff like that. We also learned how to fold a roadmap, and how to use string and a ruler to calculate distance on a map. Skills for life.

Still more useful than my calculus class.

My math teacher in 7th grade made us budget for an adult life with a city, job, and car chosen before we knew what the deal was. I learned how to live as a comic book artist in Smyrna, Delaware, driving a dodge neon. That's the extend on my financial education until I was about 25.

I would like to see the decision tree that lead you to "Smyrna, DE".

NFL floats a proposal where teams who hire minority head coaches and/or GMs get moved up in draft order in the 3rd round.

I can’t imagine how well that will go over.

That seems very demeaning and/or patronizing...or, at best, unnecessary...

Really lean into it. Give those teams five downs inside the last two minutes of each half.

I'm not against finding ways to get more minorities in HC and GM rules but that's so dumb. It rewards teams with more turnover

Let’s make this retroactive and have the Steelers picking first in the third round for the next 13 years.

We don't want to discriminate, so we're discriminating.

It is somewhat comforting that just about everyone from all corners of the political and racial spectrum have universally condemned this hideously stupid idea.

It gets harder to believe the more you think about it. Goodell has officially lost it.

I'm in favor of the Rooney Rule, but this is lunacy.

Like, you have to wonder if it is deliberately so. #stayintheheadlines

Funny, I always thought it was throw it up and pray for pass interference.

Give him all the grief in the world, and I do, but he went into a contract year and bet on himself and won a Superb Owl and SB MVP, and got the richest contract in NFL history as a result. I kinda have to tip my hat there.

Granted, that was many moons ago.
