who would y’all say the top 5 coaches in the league are?
I’d say
1. Belichick
2. Harbaugh
3. Tomlin
4. Reid
5. Payton
After that I’d say McVay and Vrabel but outside of that group of 7 I wouldn’t consider any head coaches in the league to be “good”. A few weeks ago Wilbon asked Louis Riddick about the state of head coaching in the league and Riddick agreed with Wilbon that it was shitty; I agree too outside of that group

I don't think I have any way of knowing for various reasons...BB seems like an obvious choice for #1.
I'm surprised that Tomlin is in this conversation. I'm surprised that Frank Reich isn't. Head coaches often diagram the first 15 or 20 plays of a game before game effects start to influence play calling/strategy...I'd like to point out the Colts opening drive success.
But without being in the room, this is really tough. It's not as simple as W-L record...

Frank Reich also decided not to give a touch to the MVP of the league for the entire third quarter and put the ball into his shitty QBs hands…so yea, I don’t think he’s a good coach. And considering it took him, what, 6 weeks before he quit giving freaking Marlon Mack way too many touchesI don't think I have any way of knowing for various reasons...BB seems like an obvious choice for #1.

I think he had three touches in that quarter (zero runs, to be fair). But is that enough to disqualify him...? That ~15 play quarter...? That seems unreasonable...BB doesn't have bad quarters...?

So, there's an experience element before someone is allowed on the list? I'm not saying right wrong or indifferent, but does that mean that, say, Connor McDavid can't have been considered top 5 player in the league in his second year because it's only his second year...?

might have something to do with Tomlin's two super bowls and .643 win percentageI'm surprised that Tomlin is in this conversation. I'm surprised that Frank Reich isn't.

Reich probably will be out of a job in 2 years before he would be a top 5 coach in my mind. He’s gonna lose the division to a fraudulent Titans team and has what, 1 good win this year (the Bills) while beating the dolphins, Texans, Jets, 49ers, and Jags. If anything this year is showing me he’s not a good coach because talent wise, the colts are very good.I think he had three touches in that quarter (zero runs, to be fair). But is that enough to disqualify him...? That ~15 play quarter...? That seems unreasonable...BB doesn't have bad quarters...?

Well he's 6-6 this year, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt by including his good yearsSo, there's an experience element before someone is allowed on the list? I mean, maybe...I just don't think we have the necessary knowledge to make this call. Anyone can sort by wins and go, "yeah, see..." in which case, there's no discussion to be had in the first place.
I'm not in the room or at practice. From the outside, Tomlin seems like a total blowhard who may be good at motivating but isn't anything even a little special at the technical aspects of the game. Maybe he is, but it's not obvious to me.
It's also very probable to me that worthy names for this list aren't head coaches at the moment...

this is the internet. none of us have the necessary knowledge to make any sort of call but it would be a hell of a lot less fun if we never discussed that which we do not know
NFL
Reich has a very good roster and is 2 games behind the Titans who are without Henry, AJ Brown and Julio. Let's see how this season plays out before we call him top 5 is all I'm getting at. If he doesn't win that division I wouldn't give him a passing grade

lol says the guy whose only point is that the Colts are good at coming up with the first 15-20 plays of the gameSure. So, just citing career wins is not really much of a discussion...

The discussion hasn't started yet...so it's not "my only point"...it's a preamble feeler to see if the discussion is worth pursuing at all...lol says the guy whose only point is that the Colts are good at coming up with the first 15-20 plays of the gameSure. Everything that has happened since 3 to go would be really compelling circumstantial evidence that these games are fixed.
