I like the 17th game. It makes it so the "I am Mike Tomlin and have never had a losing season but here are my 8-8s" go away. Of course, he'll go 8-8-1, but still.

Watt to the Cards gives me the same giggly feelings as when people sign with the Bungles or the Raiders or the Lions. Seems like money is more important than winning. But hey, that extra $8-10 million will come in handy on some rainy day.

was thinking about this today when I watched last week's PTI and they were talking about Chris Godwin
I wonder how much money is worth a championship (or, rather, a first championship). Godwin already has one so it's probably less valuable to him but Watt doesn't have any. I would've signed for cheaper on a contender but how much cheaper? idk

all in all, this is a pointless signing for the Cards as they're not near in position to contend
NFL
Arizona is in a division with Russell Wilson, Matthew Stafford, and Jimmy G. This isn't the only piece they need, but it certainly is a nice addition imo.I know Arizona is one of the least successful franchises ever (what a start to a point, eh?), but there's a lot of upside here:
Kyler Murray looks like he could be Lamar Jackson with better arm talent...I mean, he can do some real video game type things out there...you have a #1 WR in DeAndre Hopkins; Christian Kirk looks like a starting WR on a good team...RBs are almost completely irrelevant if you don't have a star workhorse, so Drake/Edmonds could work if the o-line is good...they have some pieces on defense to at least be above average...you spend a 1st round pick on an o-lineman with athleticism to move with Murray, who has a couple of weapons, you make a free agent score or two...
I don't know, it's not that bad there...is it the last piece for a championship? Nah, probably not. But it's a good mix of should-be-relevant and money probably...it's actually a little bit of a shame Indianapolis is in the division with Houston, because we could use some pass rush, but otherwise have a really good group and money...

Of that quartet I would've taken the Colts.

I think the interesting thing, is that we can say we'd play for a cheaper deal, but if an extra $10mm is sitting on the table, knowing I have maybe 2/3 years left in the league?was thinking about this today when I watched last week's PTI and they were talking about Chris Godwin

If I'm Watt, I'm a first ballot HoF guy already, a ring does nothing for me outside of saying I won it, at this point.

Jay Cutler is a damned national treasure.
This was just the other day. Looks like he just stepped off a snowmobile to get off at the local watering hole.

Counterpoint: Watt has made $100MM before endorsements. I don’t need an extra 10, 20, or 30 MM but a championship would sure be nice.I think the interesting thing, is that we can say we'd play for a cheaper deal, but if an extra $10mm is sitting on the table, knowing I have maybe 2/3 years left in the league?was thinking about this today when I watched last week's PTI and they were talking about Chris Godwin

I feel like if I was a pro athlete, especially an HoFer, there would be an empty feeling if i never won. Obviously a championship is never a guarantee but I can’t see the Cardinals coming remotely close in the next two seasons
NFL
Well my assumption is based on Watt signing with the Cardinals. Looks like to me he valued money over a ring, because that team isn't getting there, especially in the division if Russel stays.
I think for us it's easy to say ring over money, rah rah. But it's also $10mm+ plus. He's going to be remembered forever either way, a ring is nice, but he tangibly can't do anything with it, if he's got another 30+ years to live, and kids etc.
