Imagine getting accused of sexually assaulting 22 women and ending up with a huge raise and zero repercussions.

Now let's see how the city of Cleveland justifies cheering for this dude
He was acquitted, right? Dude did nothing wrong
He was not indicted by a grand jury, there was no 'verdict' or finding of fact. It's open ended. The grand jury may not have agreed that the evidence suggested Watson was the one who done it, or they may not have even agreed that a crime was committed at all. But there are plenty of jurisdictions in the country where indictments are not necessary to prosecute felonies, so if Watson was in one of those places he could still be criminally charged. Plus he's still facing the civil actions, and possible/likely League sanctions.

I'm not sure if the League has any leeway in circumventing that bogus $1 mil base for 2022 (maybe make his suspension retroactive, a la 'time served' and base his fines on his 2021 salary?), but that seems like a clear ploy.

He's also likely to be suspended for the first 4-6 games.
Did he get paid last year? I mean technically hasn't he been suspended 16 games already?
He was on the Inactive list for all 17 games. I believe he got paid 100% of his salary.

Don't forget, the Browns' greatest hero, with the big statue, is Jim Brown, a truly colossal POS.
In 1965, Brown was arrested in his hotel room for assault and battery against an 18-year-old named Brenda Ayres; he was later acquitted of those charges.[47] A year later, he fought paternity allegations that he fathered Brenda Ayres' child.[51]

In 1968, Brown was charged with assault with intent to commit murder after model Eva Bohn-Chin was found beneath the balcony of Brown's second-floor apartment.[52] The charges were later dismissed after Bohn-Chin refused to cooperate with the prosecutor's office. Brown was also ordered to pay a $300 fine for striking a deputy sheriff involved in the investigation during the incident. In Brown's autobiography, he stated that Bohn-Chin was angry and jealous over an affair he had been having with Gloria Steinem, and this argument is what led to the "misunderstanding with the police".[53]

In 1970, Brown was found not guilty of assault and battery, the charges stemming from a road-rage incident that had occurred in 1969.[54]

In 1975, Brown was convicted of misdemeanor battery for beating and choking his golfing partner, Frank Snow. He was sentenced to one day in jail, two years' probation, and a fine of $500.[58][59]

In 1985, Brown was charged with raping a 33-year-old woman.[60] The charges were later dismissed.[61]

In 1986, Brown was arrested for assaulting his fiancée Debra Clark.[62] Clark refused to press charges, though, and Brown was released.[63]

Brown married his second wife Monique Brown in 1997; they have two children.[64] In 1999, Brown was arrested and charged with making terroristic threats toward his wife. Later that year, he was found guilty of vandalism for smashing his wife's car with a shovel.[65] He was sentenced to three years' probation, one year of domestic violence counseling, and 400 hours of community service or 40 hours on a work crew along with a $1,800 fine.[66] Brown ignored the terms of his sentence and in 2000 was sentenced to six months in jail, which he began serving in 2002 after refusing the court-ordered counseling and community service.[67] He was released after 3 months.[68][69]

The Browns gave up a lot, but Watson is a franchise QB as long as he is on the field. I don't know the NFL handles civil suits these days, but if he plays all year he is a huge upgrade for them.

The Steelers have by far the worst QB in the division at this point.

Put another way, would you have three picks that have a 10% of being as good as a franchise QB, or a franchise QB? The same fans who go on and on about the draft being a crapshoot lose their minds at the thought of trading draft picks for a sure thing.

The ravens have some questions at qb. I’d rather have Jackson, but really, the bengals have their franchise qb, everyone else is at varying levels of “competing”

what happened to John Clayton the last 15 years or so? That commercial was really the last I ever remember seeing him

Clayton lived in Seattle and was on the local sports radio there. He had some opinions about the Wilson trade that I remember seeing posted just 7-8 days ago. The guy was great to talk to and he had time for EVERYONE. I first met him at a Ravens-Seahawks game in 1997 and then 2-3 years later, I saw him again in a ESPN show meeting and when I brought that game up, he remembered the interaction. He would talk ball with anyone who wanted to. It’s a truly unfair piece of news.

I will never knock a team for selling the farm for a franchise QB. It's a QB league now

I don’t think many people are objecting to the selling the farm aspect.

He was caught in one of the big ESPN talent purges in 2017. Radio show in Seattle, sideline reporter for the Seahawks, and lots of radio spot contributions around the country. His wife has been wheelchair bound due to MS for a long time and most of free time was spent taking care of her. Hopefully she’ll be able to get family support from someone. He was active on Twitter and with work on the 10th, so whatever happened to his health happened quickly.

'Avail' is the greatest ability an athlete can bring to their team. There are serious question marks surrounding when (maybe even if?) D Watson will appear in an NFL game again. Trading for him isn't as speculative as a draft pick, but I don't think you can categorize it in the same class as just trading for a player, either.

This has been my take for a while now. "Joe Burrow, CIN" makes me super sad, while neither Mayfield nor Jackson will be QB1 for their current team by 2023. One down, one to go.
