Since my expectations have been properly calibrated...... *ahem*...............

When I first got to L.A., I spent my first few years in the business licensing music for movies. 'L.A. Confidential', 'American Psycho', 'Boogie Nights', 'Blast From The Past', 'Rushmore', 'There's Something About Mary', 'American Beauty', 'American Pie', 'The Sixth Sense', 'Three Kings'......... worked on all those and more, and my memory of the repertoire involved is largely defined by that experience.

One of the big ones isn't a movie, tho. When I joined EMI we had just started the Ultra-Lounge series of compilation CDs that featured eclectic mambo, space pop, jazz, silliness, etc. We licensed a ton of that music to HBO for "Real Sex". So there's that.

The song Fly Me to the Moon a/k/a In Other Words to me equals the TV and movie franchise Neon Genesis Evangelion. Multiple different recordings of the song were used for the closing credits of the TV show, the non-vocal music was used as background music, and the song shows up in the various Evangelion movies. This is the version recorded for Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone :

I can't believe no one has mentioned Singin' in the Rain, which was written 25 years before the movie of the same name, and the ultimate movie-associated song, As Time Goes By:

Right back where we started from (Maxine Nightengale) - every bus trip in Slap Shot

I can't hear Miserlou without thinking its the intro to pulp fiction. You can probably say the same for The Revels - Comanche (aka the Bring Out The Gimp song)
