You’ll have to excuse me for not shedding a tear for GameStop. **** that place. There are better places to buy/sell.

Oh, I wouldn’t feel bad for them. By all accounts, they’re run by a bunch of NTP66s. It would actually be fitting to see then go under after years of offering $1.03 for a day old brand new release.

Man, I hate the switch to everything being digital.

My kids like to get PS4 games on disc so they can trade them in. They just took a stack of old games and traded them all for Madden 21 and had money left over for MUT points or whatever BS microtransactions are in that game.

Gamestop burned me too many times on trade-ins. Plus, more than once I had traders remorse and rebought the game I had traded in (Ghostbusters for 360 comes to mind). I do prefer physical as a collector and also to make sure I'm able to play long after servers/Xbox Live shuts down, but the ease of digital is awesome. Being able to select the newest game directly from your console, download it, and play it without ever leaving the house is incredible.

My two gripes with digital only is that the initial install can take a while, and space runs out quickly if you’re a heavy gamer.

Every physical disc that I've bought in the last 10 years requires a lengthy install and takes up the same space as the digital counterpart. And again, I prefer physical media but the install/storage process is ridiculous for both.

Re: space that's why I delete yearly titles and games I haven't played in 2+ years.

External HDD is your friend for the storage. I have a 4TB for my PS4 and have like 35 games on there, and am around half full ... that includes whatever storage the system uses for its own OS etc.

Now going to SSD that becomes alot more expensive.

Installing is really the same whether its digital or disc as far as time goes. The initial time it takes to download I guess is a bit more, but if you have a decent connection its not bad, and you normally only need to have it partially downloaded to start playing while it downloads in the background. Plus if my games are installed on the HDD they download and install updates automatically not when I put the disc in the next time which is a plus.

I get that, but now I need an external drive. It’s a pain in the ass. And despite the gigabit NIC in the Xbox One X, it is not at all what I’d consider to be fast. Even my dated TiVo’s transfer data at much higher throughput. And yes, this is on a gigabit fiber connection.

The external drive literally takes two seconds to plug in via a USB haha. I mean it's an extra expense obviously, but it made my experience so much better just by not having to swap out discs all the time and not having to worry about filling up my HDD.

The PS4 wifi/ethernet connection is not the greatest either, but I blame that more on PSN being crap, but it's still manageable.

That’s what I meant, having to purchase additional storage. Storage is such a cheap commodity these days and these dadholes are giving consumers the bare minimum just to shave a few bucks off the top.

Yeah I have an 2TB external on my Xbox One and I'll probably bring it over to the Series X for the BC titles and to keep the internal free for X titles. It's literally just plugging it into the USB port. I did do something incredibly stupid and pay the extra price for the official Xbox branded Seagate drive. That was real dumb.

Lol, did it really come across like I was confused about how to plug in an external drive?

As someone with their own IT thread, I assumed you had an idea.

This is probably old news, but the PS5 won’t support games from the PS1-3. Not at all surprised about 1-2, but I thought there was a possibility that they’d support PS3 games.

Speaking of console exclusives, there's a COD Cold War multiplayer alpha this weekend just for PS4 owners (don't even need PS+ to play).

My son, a COD enthusiast and good player, mostly plays on PC for a multitude of reasons. So I texted him to see how it was (he's got a flex day today, so no school after mid-morning) and he complains about the low FPS and FOV settings. A true PC elitist, like his old man.

I know it makes people upset, but I'm fine with that. Backward compatibility with the most recent generation of games is fine. There is 0 reason to support PS3 games, or any other older variants at this point.

Am I correct to assume that if you purchased a PS4 game digitally, you would be able to play it on your PS5, provided you are using the same PSN user name?

As a PC gamer, I haven't set foot in a GameStop in years. The last time I was in a GameStop was in 2010, which is when I bought a corded Xbox 360 controller to use on my PC.

I would expect so. The bigger issue would be does the game work on PS5? But supposedly Sony has said that 99% of the PS4 games they've tested worked on PS5 without issues. Of course that could be a dubious statement since there is no qualification on what they tested, but...

TLDR, shouldn't be an issue.

Not gonna lie, reading the last few posts it sorta does come off like plugging in a USB external HDD is just too much. Which is funny, cos I know it's not correct, but still a good chuckle.
