Contra is one of my all time favorites and there's no way I could ever beat it without the Konami code.

Another that I played a lot that wasn't in the super popular tier was Adventures in the Magic Kingdom. It still holds up.

I never beat Paperboy, but played the hell out of it.

Double Dragon II was the bomb.

I never 'beat' RC Pro-Am, if you even can, but I played the hell out of it.

That's another good one. Rad Racer as well. The mega man series my friends and I probably dumped hundreds of hours into.

Since we’ve moved to the 16 bit, I loved Mutant League Hockey.

Damn, that was a really fun game. That Space Mountain level gave me nightmares as a kid.

Snake rattle and roll
That was great. It's a very simple game/goal, but it always felt like it had a lot of depth, for some reason.

my sister and i could sleepwalk through Contra, and Super-C as a team. same with TMNT-2. She was my secret weapon and I'd bet my friends they couldnt beat her at certain ones. when she was around 8 years old, some D-bag interrupted her Street Fighter run at the gas station, and quickly found out why you dont f*** with her as Blanka.

Battle of Olympus
I loved this game, but man it was a pain in the ass. So many times where you have to traverse precarious platforming sections loaded with enemies designed to knock you into the abyss to reach the next God with your olives intact...

Kind of a Zelda 2 ripoff, but I always loved Greek mythology, so I was predisposed to liking it.

I think the worst aspect of this game, however, was its password system. The big issue is the fact that so many of the letters look identical, I can't even begin to tell you how many passwords I wrote down and was never able to get to work again.

Recently found out about a Genesis game called "Crusader of Centy". It was developed as part of an initiative by Sega to combat Nintendo's dominance of the RPG genre during that generation, alongside games like Beyond oasis.

I was aware of Beyond Oasis... I remember seeing previews of it in gaming magazines, but when it finally came out, it was something insane like $80 which was a good $30 more than the standard game at that time so I never got it.

I guess Sega decided to focus on BO for the NA release instead of CoC (of course both games had different names outside NA). Another company eventually ported it for NA, but it apparently was released very late in the Genesis' life cycle, not long before the next gen started rolling out, so it is pretty rare.

I decided to try this out via emulator. There are some interesting ideas there, but I am just not loving it overall... it is far, far less enjoyable than A Link To The Past, which it definitely feels like they were trying to emulate to an extent.

Might give it a bit longer to see if it improves, but somewhat disappointing thus far.

Been playing Red Dead Redemption 2. The level of detail that's been put into this game is amazing. I'm finding myself ignoring the missions and just going out into the wild to hunt game.

Sometimes when I am stressed in real life I fire up that game and retreat to the mountains and roam around.

It's definitely the most beautiful game I've ever played. I saw a screenshot of a horse's face when it is initially startled by a wolf. It's eyes went wide with shock. That is serious attention to detail.

I've been working my way through the Yakuza series remasters on PS4... These games are so Japan. They are not without their flaws, but the story is generally interesting, and if you are a completionist, well, these games have plenty for you to do.

Goro Majima is definitely one of my favorite video game characters of all time now.

My biggest complaint so far is that they did the remaster of 2 after the others so it uses a newer game engine that they introduced in 6. It's really hard to go back to the "old" system after playing that due to all of the improvements they made.

The depth of these games is incredible though. The main story is long enough, but there are tons of side missions, and an insane amount of mini-games... There are multiple Sega arcades that contain a bunch of old Sega games like Virtua Fighter and Out Run. There is a karaoke rhythm game... disco... batting practice, golfing, bowling... Some games have a pocket circuit racing game complete with customizable cars...

And every once in awhile you are treated to something that is so Japan it is amazing. Definitely not for everyone, but I am enjoying myself quite a bit.
