I could see COD staying multi-plat. It's the third largest gaming franchise of all time. It would still be a huge selling point for Game Pass. But most of the other titles will likely go exclusive. Microsoft is buying up developers for Game Pass and their stance has always been "first party" games are Xbox/PC exclusive.

IIRC, there are far more PlayStation consoles in the wild than Xboxes, at least for the last two generations. It would be silly to ignore that marketbase.
Microsoft has done a good job supporting Windows gaming, and I hope they continue to do so.
I also hope PC components start to get affordable again.

Can't wait to see what they do with World of Warcraft. Think this might be a good time for a revitalization, the game has been very stale.

PC makes up an incredibly large majority of COD's 110 million/month player base. Assuming this goes to Game Pass, the number of subscribers just increased a ridiculous amount. Microsoft doesn't really care about hardware sales so yeah I can see them continuing to support Playstation at least with COD. Game Pass is where the money is.

Thinking more about this, the big rumor is that Sony is setting up a platform that will rival Game Pass. With Bathesda and now Activision/Blizzard, Microsoft is ensuring that those properties will be on their platform instead of Sony's. It's less about console exclusivity and more game subscription exclusivity.

honestly, games as a service needs legislation because there's been too many games coming out basically in beta/alpha stage (COD and BF) that really shouldn't punish the gamers for playing the way they do.
Same with lootbox mechanics etc. All of that stuff is gambling and doing more negative to the games themselves.

I don’t have problems with loot boxes as long as there isn’t a microtransaction required to open them.

Lootboxes have already been greatly regulated. Regulations are coming in the US but in China, Japan, and other countries they have basically been regulated to the point of being inconsequential. We see the effect in games here even without internal regulations because of how important China and Japan are to the gaming industry.
As far as AA games being released in beta stage, that won't change until people stop buying unfinished games. Gamers are punishing themselves here. Just stop pre-ordering and you'll be fine.

EA Sports would likely disagree, maybe FIFA is different because of regulations - but these game seem unchecked when it comes to that MUT and Ultimate Team stuff.Lootboxes have already been greatly regulated. I don't play HUT or MUT or FUT. I don't really understand why anybody would play those modes tbh. But yeah I see your point.

Gambling requires three elements: Chance; consideration; prize. I can t speak to other games, but in FarCry you know what you're purchasing, so there isn't an element of 'chance'. (Usually 'consideration' is the element that's dropped to make something like a sweepstakes legal)

That's why I still play MLB The Show. Their version of Ultimate Team is real easy to spend 0 real world currency on. Almost every card in the game can be earned just by playing the game and making progress toward programs. I've played maybe 10 games online tops, and I'm down to about 15 cards needed to complete the final collection set.

Something tells me Microsoft is going to make COD Game Pass exclusive and try to get Sony to allow Game Pass on PS. "We tried to honor that and allow Playstation users to play Call of Duty through Game Pass on Playstation but Sony said no, so..."

Microsoft acquired a major studio, and you're worried about them not sharing? lol
Video Games
Phil Spencer talks all this good for games stuff, but he's a shiesty individual I think.

He worded that very carefully. Similar to what he said when they acquired Bethesda. Don't worry, we won't pull existing games. Warzone will remain on Playstation. Future titles? Eh we'll see.
I'm not worried about them not sharing because I'm on Xbox and Game Pass. It won't change how I play the games except hopefully saving me $70/year on COD. We were moving toward gamer inclusivity with cross-platform play becoming the norm. To see it move in the opposite direction is sad, even though it's "my side" that acquired the major studio.

My kids are avid Madden, FIFA, and NBA 2K players. Back when I mained the NHL series, I would play entire seasons/dynasty mode, and build the Penguins into a perennial powerhouse. Rico Fata and Milan Kraft were superstars. I only used a player editor a little bit lol.I don't play HUT or MUT or FUT. I don't really understand why anybody would play those modes tbh. But yeah I see your point.
All my kids do with these games is play challenges to earn points to unlock player cards. They watch streamers open packs while they play the game. My younger son only plays entire games very infrequently, as he can earn more doing dopey challenges. Just a new way to get player engagement and retention, I guess.

The small challenges are good to break up the monotony of simming seasons or doing Be A Pro imo

I bought mine for $40 off right after Christmas (Best Buy matched MS's online price). Thanks for looking out, though!
Huge fan of this controller, even if it has a little drift early on. Bought the 2 year extended warranty through MS.

Just got a clean SNES on ebay with OEM adapter and cables, as well was two OEM controllers and Super Mario World for $125. That will complete the retro gaming area downstairs unless I find a cheap PS1 or Dreamcast somewhere.

Think about it as a first-party entity. You're the gatekeeper to the IP. You want to play COD? By an Xbox. The wholesale price of an Xbox X is around $300, give or take. The wholesale price of a physical game disc is something like $40. So you can sacrifice a chunk of unit volume in game sales if you're making up for it via only 30%-ish of consumers make a console purchase decision based off that exclusivity. I think they'd be insane to do that, but I can see the through line.Spending $70b and then cutting off half the revenue stream would be an improbable business decision.
The quality of the exclusives has always been PlayStation's secret sauce, imo. Uncharted, TLOU, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Show (until this year)...... those are excellent selling points.
