That PS classic better have Twisted Metal......
Truer words have never been spoken.
oh man, I completely forgot about that game and just seeing those words brought back some groovy nostalgia!

I remember Powerman 5000's "When Worlds Collide" was on the original Twisted Metal game...man I loved cranking up the volume when that would come on

Do those LEGO vid-dia games online multiplayer or just a split screen co op?
Unless the ones released in the last couple of years are different, the Lego games do not have online multiplayer.

Sounds like a new model of the switch is coming early 2019? That's really annoying as I was getting kids one for Christmas and would prefer to wait to get an updated one. It better not have any drastic changes.

Newegg had a one day deal on a MSI X470 gaming pro motherboard and Ryzen R5 2600 CPU for $250 plus a $20 rebate. I picked that up and some DDR4 3000 mHz RAM and upgraded my gaming PC, essentially for BFV.

So, I've been playing BF1 a little bit, having only played about 40 hours since it came out two years ago. It just didn't click with me, for some reason. But I enjoyed the hell out of the BFV beta, and decided I would try to play the older game as a warmup to the new game. I've enjoyed it lately, but it's just a weird game for me.

Anyway, I kept all of the other components - primarily the AMD R9 390 GPU with the thought that I would gradually upgrade that part early next year.

BF1 ran OK on my old PC. I could get 60-70 FPS on medium settings, which is fine. The new installation of BF1 defaults to Ultra settings, which made me chuckle...yeah, right. Like my GPU is going to keep up with that.

Well, it sure did. With everything turned up, it stayed in the 80-90FPS range at 1080p. Unreal! I don't like some of the effects that make the screen look blurry (like vaseline is on your screen during some weather events in game), so I ended up with a mixture of Ultra and other settings off...and now I'm at well over 100 FPS, close to 144.

All with a four year old GPU. I knew the Frostbite engine was CPU intensive, but I didn't think the jump from an FX-8350 processor was that huge to the new Ryzen CPUs. BFV will probably be a little more intensive, but not that much, according to the developers.

Needless to say, I'm a happy camper.

 hell no. However, with the new RTX cards on the market, there will be a flood of 1080s and 1080tis on the used market. I'm a little skeptical about buying PC components off ebay, but there are plenty of people that swear by it - unless it's a card that's been used to mine cryptocurrency. Anyone else buy GPUs used from randos on the Internet?

I've heard middle to late 2019. I'm sure it'll be similar to the PS4 Pro and One X in that it'll just be upgraded graphics and in the Switch's case maybe better battery life but the old model would still be compatible with the new games. It's all rumors at this point anyway since Nintendo hasn't announced anything.

What's the point of an updated switch?

This pleases me. I'm currently having PC issues and my GPU may have went the way of the Dodo. Might have to replace.

$$$ I just don't want to buy one and then find out they made it 4k less than a year later.

A mid-gen update is standard for consoles these days. The Switch definitely has some "improvement opportunities" as far as hardware goes.

I thought they had to update it so people couldn't hack the OS and play ROMs. Might be wrong.

Edit: Indeed it was a hardware issue.

Hey, it looks like you might be able to finally change your PSN name. Internal test screenshots show an edit button in your account settings on PS4.

Evidently, it's a lot more difficult than just changing the displayed screen name, especially for multiplayer games. But it might happen as early as December...

This was in the works back lo these many months ago when I was still at PS. It was part of a complete revamp of how users can manage things like family accounts and such, and at the time it appeared that no one in charge of developing and implementing the changes had put more than about 90 nanoseconds of thought into the effort.

This is unreal. Ninja makes 450k/month on subscriptions alone. Obviously he's an outlier but damn that's insane.

This guy is a middle of the road streamer (4,000 subs) with 10k viewers per stream and he makes 20k/month on subscriptions, ads, and donations. I knew these dudes did alright for themselves and some can support themselves just on Twitch alone, but I had no idea the numbers were this high.

Now obviously for every Ninja with 100k+ subscribers or this dude with 4k subscribers, there are 10x the amount of people with less than 20 subs so they aren't making anything close to that.

What is the point of watching these guys play these games? Because they are good at them? Are they funny? This phenomenon is a big time "I am an old" situation for me.

Same, I have no desire to watch someone else play games. I think it's dumb, but I see how kids get hooked, easily.

There are entire TV networks devoted to this nonsense now.

I admit that I frequently search for gameplay videos if I encounter a level/map/mission that I'm having difficulty clearing; it's useful to see how someone else got it sorted. But to just watch someone play a game....?

I'll hop on a stream during my lunch break or sometimes when I'm watching a show with the fiancé that I don't have much interest in. It's no different than watching professional sports. You watch because it's entertaining and these guys are good. You don't become a top tier streamer unless you are really **** good at gaming.

I will add that I'm old enough to remember gaming systems or individual games that did not allow for multiplayer. So you'd have to sit and watch your best friend play, and then they'd die and hand the controller off to you and you'd have your go while they watched. (Call it the "Georgetown Prep" age of gaming)

It sucked.

Also worth noting that for streamers like Stroud or Dr Disrespect, the majority of their viewers are 18-34 year olds (according to them). These guys aren't making that kind of money from kids. They're making it from college students/young adults who actually have some disposal income.

For Ninja's case he's one of the best Fortnite players out there. To anyone familiar with the mechanics of the game, it's really impressive seeing how he handles situations. It definitely helps that he has some charisma, too.

I only really watch smaller streams that have a relatively tight-knit community, so it's more like a hang-out place than anything. Chats that are toxic or too busy to read and say anything have no appeal to me. Plus, if the streamer has no interactions with chat, then what's the point?

I absolutely don't doubt the skill these guys have. I actually commend them, is dedicated to the one game that they play nonstop for longer than 8 hour days is absolutely burn-out inducing and they really can't stop.

I just don't care for watching others play games. I'd rather be the one doing it.

There was an article in ESPN magazine on ninja or maybe on their website recently.. the dude basically has no life at this point. He makes $$$$ though. Hopefully he is smart enough to save a good bit, but I don't know if I would want to go through all of that seems pretty stressful in all honesty. It's like a 24/7 job.
