3 things that derailed an otherwise great gaming sessions when I was a kid:

- The jump on I believe world 8-2 in Super Mario Bros where you was 2 small bricks with a gap, and then a long gap, you had to run across the two and time the jump perfectly

My daughter rage quit at this part.

Nintendo Hard is no joke. With todays games you get tutorial levels, save states, unlimited opportunities. NES was just like “you get 4 chances, don’t **** it up. Go.”
Rygar and Blaster Master were two games that I loved, but had no save points and took forever. You either had to plan the day to play it in one sitting, which could take hours, or hit pause, and hope no one turned off the NES or it didn't freeze/flick and pick it up later.

Those are two games on the NES channel that were my favorites as a kid, but I hated playing because you'd invest a crap load of time, but if you died or had to leave, you couldn't save.

Blaster Master was one of my favorites, probably beat that game more than any other. My friends mom growing up always had that and Lolo, and Solomon's key paused and would just let the nes powered on. She also had nes tourneys at their house where everyone brought their Nintendo's and she would set up stations and hand out Nestor awards. It was awesome.

That's awesome.

Today that probably wouldnt' be so special, but back then you only had like 1-3 tvs in your house and probably 2 of them the big cabinent TVs that you couldn't move.

We brought TV's too. Nintendo powers all decorated throughout the house. Those were the days.

I've been reading some of my old nintendo powers while I take a crap recently. I have literally every single issue in great condition.

Once they get past the N64 era, it's not the same, but those early issues, like the first 50 or 60, they bring back memories.

Yep, that is correct. Overalls and shirt color were backwards.

I am so mad I got rid of all my Nintendo powers and my nintendo chest that they were stored when I moved out of my parents house. I looked up the Nintendo Chest on ebay and the few that popped up were all over 100$...still almost bought one.

I remember some of the RBI Baseball and Bases Loaded NES cartridges could save players/lineups, team records/standings, etc. Man, I thought I was living in the future.

Baseball stars, that was amazing being able to build a team, have the stats saved, etc.

Did it have a very distinct wood smell inside? Every time I open that WWF chest it's like being transported to childhood and I'm taking out my Hasbros to play.

Yeah it did. If I remember the inside was basically just untreated plywood or something.

I just found a pic of one on ebay that shows the inside it's exactly as I remembered/thought. Untreated wood of some kind.

Dude, if it's like $100, I'd pick that up if it meant that much. YOu dont' see those often (at least I haven't in that shape).

Hell, I might buy it.

One thing I'm glad I picked up about 15 years ago when they were still like $25 a piece were the Hasbro Nintendo trophies, in box in great condition. I got all of the Mario, Zelda, and Punch out ones.

Now the Punch out ones you can only find for $100+

Pressboard? I think I've heard it called that too. Definitely has a unique smell to it.

Most are way more than that when I just looked. Plus the cost of shipping. I'll need to get lucky. I'd pay like 200 to 250 it in decent shape but even that is pushing it.

I don't know how much (if any) music theory you know, but this is one of my favorite YouTube channels and today he posted this breakdown of the music of Super Mario Bros. I thought you might get a kick out of it.

That’s exactly like the WWF one. I’m glad I hung onto mine and lugged that heavy piece of **** across the country and back.

Thanks for sharing, that was great. I wish I had my wife and kids talent when it comes to music. Every single one of them since they've been 5 or 6 can pick up an instrument around the house and play something that they heard seconds before. My brain does not work like that.

I have no musical talent, but I'm going to watch this tomorrow.
