Aw hell yeah. What was originally going to be a Hornet DLC for Hollow Knight is now going to be a complete sequel:

I'm excited for this. Outside the original game boy, I never owned any of the Nintendo handhelds, and even the original Gameboy I only had like 4 games.

I hope they get all the Zelda handhelds on the switch. This is a definite buy for me.

Link's Awakening is the one with a magic whale? If so, then I played it on the original Gameboy.

As bad as the windfish is, one of the oracle games had "the seed of life", which I think was supposed to bw acorns, but totally looks like Link is holding up a ball sac.

At what point does the Battle Royale subgenre jump the shark?

That's like saying when does the RPG or FPS or fighting genre jump the shark.

Yeah, it's not going away anytime soon. Battlefield's version is due at some point next month, adding to the chaos. I hope they make it free-to-play, otherwise I don't think people are going to buy Battlefield for the BR with polished BR games already out there and free.

Another aspect is the microtransactions. My kids would blow every bit of money they have for skins and crap for these games. My older son - less than 24 hours after crying about not having enough money to buy a (regular) video game - wanted $10 in Apex coins or whatever to buy a skin for a game he's played about two hours. He HAD to have it etc. We heavily restrict how much of this stuff both kids can get, but the addiction is strong...and isn't going anywhere.

Yeah, very true. I do like how I unlocked skins after my first (brief) round and rank up.

Evidently, there may be a Chappie skin, as Neill Blomkamp was talking with Respawn CEO via Twitter. Chappy kind of looks like Pathfinder, fwiw.

That's like saying when does the RPG or FPS or fighting genre jump the shark.

See, i view those as the main genre. BR is just a subgenre of an already-existing formula (either 3rd person shooter or FPS).

At least, from an outside point of view, the games are more or less the same and there's not a whole lot of innovation between games in the subgenre. Sure, you have cartoony vs realism vs mech tech, but the core concept of gameplay (outlasting your opponents) is exactly the same throughout.

And now everyone is trying to throw their hat into this ring. It seems like we're pretty close to oversaturation of that market.

I disagree. The core concept of the gameplay is winning the game. Same as the core concept of RPGs is winning the game. Or the core concept of any FPS is killing the other team and winning the game. The individual games are very different and each has its own unique feel. Call of Duty and Battlefield are both first person shooters, but they are wildly different. Same with any two BRs.

Oh man...there's a game I would play again in a heartbeat.

I have been loving playing the Wii again with my daughter...I think I forgot how much I enjoy the Mario/Zelda franchises. I've actually been taking a break from RDR2 going back on a nostalgia trip. Really need to upgrade at some point from the Wii.

They remastered it in HD for the Wii U and it was terrific. I'm sure you can find some used Wii U consoles now that switch is out. You can keep your Wii controllers for it too.
