So it looks like I will need to upgrade my PC for 2042. I figured an R5 2600/5700XT would get me into the recommended specs, but not for the beta. I doubt the full game will be optimized significantly. Not a shock, but the timing is not great with my potential move this spring.

I figured to look into mouse and keyboard for the new consoles, as it's a cost-effective way to get an updating gaming apparatus. I don't care about being in PC lobbies or whatever. I haven't paid much attention to the new consoles, as I don't really use our PS4 and my kids have mostly moved to PC gaming.

But we still can't walk into a damn store and buy a new console? A year after release? I'm not ready to pull the trigger, but I was checking prices and inventory...and nope.

Yeah, and the shortages are going to last into 2022. You need to either be an absolute hawk when inventory drops (there are some tips if buying from MS, like having the checkout URL ready to go so that you can add to your cart and then go to that URL to save time, and having your credit card saved in there, etc.). Makes me glad that I randomly got my XSX by opening the Target app at 6am one morning and saw it in stock. I had it in my possession before 6:30am.

I have decided to retire my 10-yr old gaming PC. In a couple months I'm getting a Razer laptop.

I hate the design of the Razers, personally. I know it's built to perform, but they didn't seem to want to put much effort into the case.

I had an alienware laptop before they were murdered by Dell. It lasted a literal year before it was graphically out of date.

My dad has had 3 Alienware's now, including his newest M15. Terrific hardware, with a few things I absolutely loathe.

That's not going to be any different for any brand, though...

Once the PS5 price drop happens I'll pull the trigger. So I'm at least 15-16 months away from that. Ye 4Pro will then be relegated to the living room as the media hub.

Oh I know, I just don't like anything gaming for a laptop.

Yeah, I've never been a laptop guy. I've always had one, but it was never my primary. My wife's HP serves that role now, though I rarely use it.

We got my youngest son an HP Omen laptop last year for around $1000. Ryzen 5 4800G, 1 TB SSD, 1660ti, 144hz panel. Runs everything smoothly, probably even the 2042 beta. But as a rule, I don't do laptops for gaming. We just couldn't get him PC components that cheap to build him one last year.

I've had trackers enabled for an RTX 3060, and can count on one hand how many times it has come in stock. Always happens in the middle of the night, and they're gone in seconds.

SO so happy I snagged a PS5 before christmas, and a 3070 whenever I built my PC.

I refuse to spend above retail for a PS5.

Same - spent less than retail on my XSX (thanks, RedCard!), and I will not spend more than retail on the RTX.

Metroid Dread is terrific. It's challenging and fast paced and has all the feels from my childhood. I found myself screaming when the EMMI robots hunt you down.

So I have to actually say, I really enjoy the NHL 22 update. Moreso than before, I actually bought it because of the EA Trial. Haven't spent money on a full game in years from EA sports, but here we are.

Crap. Totally forgot this was released. I haven't sat down and played any games since mid August because the kids have been so busy now with sports and school. We free up a ton after October so I plan on playing Skyward Sword and want to pick up Metroid.

I had a tough time getting into skyward sword again. Now I'm battling for game time with Metroid among me and 2 kids. I'm at the first boss and it's difficult, but incredibly fun. This is probably the best switch game I've played in a while.

Nice. I never played Skyward Sword before, even though I do own it for the Wii. Just never had a chance to sit down and play. So that game will be all new for me. It's literally the only consol Zelda game I never played/beat.

Still pumped that Metroid is living up to the hype.

I agree. It's a huge improvement over 21. I can't remember the last time an NHL game has felt so different. I play a lot of online versus so I can't speak for the offline modes, but the actual gameplay is awesome.

I was kinda bored late last week and looking to jump into something new. Picked up AC Odyssey on sale to give it a try. Hadn't played an AC game since Black Flag, and wasn't really sure what to expect. I had heard that it was a departure from the 'original' AC formula, but figured even if it kinda sucked it would be fun to run around ancient Greece for a while.

So far, I'm kinda blown away. The setting is absolutely gorgeous. Combat feels a bit more challenging. Feels way more like an open world rpg than previous AC games that I played. Maybe the low expectations are part of it, but really digging it so far.

Really? I was going to skip it this year for the first time in a while. This is encouraging

So I've been getting into HUT - and decided I'm going to try and give that a go this year. Not spend money - but the offline player stuff interests me, because I like building teams, etc.

The gameplay is much improve though. The top corner glitch stuff is still kind of there, but cross crease became much harder, as guys get tied up quicker.

Honestly, it's the most favorable I've felt about the NHL series since NHL 14.
