Has anyone here played Fallout 76? The reviews I've been reading/watching have been absolutely savage. People hate that game.

For a company that has one critically lauded success after another, this launch has been a disaster. It's not just irate gamers either.
PCWorld ended their review early due to their frustration with the game's technical performance, and said that it still would not be a great game to them even if it "functioned properly".[49] Metro wrote that Fallout 76 may be the "most badly made video game" they had ever seen from a major publisher. They further described the game as "a disastrous failure" whose technical shortcomings may one day be fixed, but whose "design failings and obliviousness to its own potential" suggested that it was "irrevocably broken".[50] GameSpot said that the game "can look and feel like its illustrious predecessors at times, but it's a soulless husk of an experience."[51] According to IGN, "The rich wasteland map of Fallout 76 is wasted on a mess of bugs, conflicting ideas, and monotony."[52] Giant Bomb has said they will not publish a full review due to disinterest of the staff to play it enough to reach a final verdict. Editor and co-founder Jeff Gerstmann stated on their podcast "No one on staff wants to play anymore of this video game."[53]
I mean....damn.

Damn. Compare that to the heaps of praise for RDR2 and it looks even worse. Pre-release there was a question of whether RDR2 or F76 would be GoTY (get bent, Spiderman).

I had a bad feeling about FO76 (Bethesda venturing far outside their wheelhouse, diving into a completely oversaturated genre). But even I was expecting scores in the 7/10 range.

Bethesda always releases buggy stuff at launch. FO76 seems to buggy but also just really really bad.

Yup, the bugs are almost looked at as humorous or entertaining when the quality of the game is like New Vegas or something. When the game is shtty too, people have a lot less patience for the bugs.

Bethesda bugs are part of the fun, especially because they're usually not game-breaking. Fallout 76 is being savaged for its content (or major lack thereof), which is usually the strength of Bethesda games. I'm greatly disappointed that Bethesda basically wasted its time making this game, but I hope the smackdown this game is getting will teach Bethesda the lesson that it needs to stick to making the games that its longtime and loyal fans actually want to play. I think people might be more accepting of this game if it were a completely new game and not an unwanted entry into a 20-year-old franchise of very specific games—namely, lore-rich single-player games.

Didn't Bethesda sort of invent, or at least pioneer, the concept of the 'known shippable (bug)'?

Yup. Honestly the bugs have always been endearing, at least to me. I think they were trying to cash in on a game like this because of the opportunity for microtransactions too due to the multiplayer element.

What a great idea. I like this rather than buying a whole mini system

What type of games do you like to play? Most PS4 exclusive games are single-player games. Some of those would be Spider-Man, God of War, Uncharted, Last of Us.

@Kaiser depending on how much you play and are willing to spend, upgrade to the Pro version.

Because they were not typically enough to break the game, and the surrounding story and content was so compelling that it was easier to look past them. And the bugs make for a ton of hilarious GIFs, videos, and screen captures.

The PS4 Pro is worth it, imo.

MLB The Show is a Sony exclusive and very good.

+1 on the Pro (worth it imo)

The Uncharted series is the most fun I've ever had playing video games. The Nathan Drake Collection (games 1-3) is $19.99, Thief's End (#4) is $19.99 and Lost Legacy (which was originally intended to be DLC, but was fleshed out into a full title) is $19.99; so that's basically five of the best AAA titles from a top-shelf developer for the price of one new game.

TLOU Remastered is $19.99, and is the best game I've ever played; the sequel is due out within the next several months. In fact, it still ranks as one of the best PS4Pro titles out there, which is quite an accomplishment for a remaster.

Horizon Zero Dawn is supposed to be bonkers, but I've still not fired it up yet.

And of course, there's Alien: Isolation.

So my wife got me the 'not the pro' for Xmas. Should I just throw it out? Use it as a paperweight? Water it to see if it'll grow?

Hoizon Zero Dawn is an extremely good game, can be pretty difficult at times. The Ultimate edition always goes on sale.

I just got Spider-Man on Black Friday, and it's crazy fun. I can't possibly list all the little things I like about the game because there's too much. The game is built in such a way that you actually feel like a superhero, and the people react accordingly.

God of War is another game you can't go wrong with.

Also, if you're into Dark Souls style games, Bloodborne is really good. As time passes, I think I may actually prefer Bloodborne over Dark Souls.

I had one for two years and it was great. If you're legit concerned (you don't seem to be) take it back where she bought it and apply store credit to the upgrade. Or just enjoy it for what it is. The biggest thing the Pro can do that the standard cannot is PSVR, but it's not very good so I wouldn't recommend it anyway.

The Pro can do 4k, the standard cannot.

The decreased load times are also noticeable on the Pro which, in the cumulative, is really where you find the value, imo.

Lol, this is a confirmed response from Bethesda CS, regarding a complete bait and switch they advertised with their $200 FO76 collectors edition. What a damn mess.
