what is fortnite
It's a battle royal style first person (well, technically 3rd person) shooter. Big map that has all the players dropped in, and the map constantly shrinks. If you don't get into the shrinking area in time you die. You loot areas looking for weapons and resources. Last man/team standing wins.

The unique part of the game is building. You can get wood, brick, and metal, and you're able to build walls, ramps, forts, etc. I've not played, but have watched clips. Looks like fun. Plus it's free.

What the hell is PUBG Fortnite, anyways? Some kind of bar for pimps?
It's a battle royale game. If you're doing the solo mode, it's you vs 99 others. You parachute onto an island, loot the houses/shacks for weapons, armor, and gear. After five minutes, a circle appears somewhere on the island and that's the "play zone." You have to be inside the play zone to survive. Every few minutes the play zone shrinks. To make your way to the smaller circles, you can either hop in a vehicle (if you can find one) or [no vehicles in Fortnite] hoof it, all the while trying to kill or avoid other players. Long story short, it's Hunger Games.
Add in some building elements and you got Fortnite. I prefer the more serious tone of PUBG but both are good. Try out Fortnite for free, then buy PUBG if you like it.

The battle royal stand-alone is the pubg clone.
Standard Fortnite is more like a third person clash of clans.

Microtransactions, baby!

They have all sorts of skins and stuff that you can buy which make your person appear different... oddly enough, I haven't heard of any purchases where your player's skill is increased, which I find pretty cool.

Yes, purely cosmetic. Both of my boys got Fortnite "money" for Christmas, so they could run around in a knight's costume or some such.

It looks like a fun game, tbh. They play on the PS4, and my struggles with FPS and controllers are legion here. I may give it a go on PC at some point.

Not sure what to make of that Nintendo thing. I would have to see the practical application in a game for one... But I also can't really disagree with the charging for cardboard thing.

Nintendo typically tries to innovate, but they certainly don't always hit the mark.

For some reason I'm reminded of the velociraptors in Jurassic Park. Clever girl.

Tried to embed the gifs but I failed, however a couple quick kills in fortnite last night. Ignore the potato aim in the first clip, I had a beer or two.

Yeah, it's weird to me, but I don't think adults are the target. My kids love making these cardboard crafts from Melissa and Doug all the time. This would absolutely interest them.

Agree with the kids part, they will eat this up. I also think it's working out OK for Nintendo
A three-minute video focused primarily on some cardboard, string and rubber bands added almost $1.4bn to the stock market capitalisation of Nintendo on Thursday, as the Japanese console maker championed arts and crafts as the next frontier in gaming.

I went to one of those in Philadelphia once, it was a really great time.

I'm considering selling off the bulk of my vintage gaming collection. Not sure.

Cross platform Rocket League is being worked on for Switch, PS4, and XBone. I'm sure PC is in there as well. This is how things should be.

RL is already cross platform, just not cross every platform as PS4 and Xbox users can play vs PC users. Xbox vs PS4 is not available. Seems like Sony is holding that up. No idea what the Switch is up to.
