Been playing Monster Hunter World for a couple weeks now. I'll probably pick up the expansion at some point...man I forgot how addicting these games are. Farming loot thru hunting and carving is so satisfying. 25 to 30 minute hunts, helping others defeat a tough monster, and getting your ass handed to you then seeing the calvary arrive to help you is all just so cool to me. The learning curves, different weapons and armor, and difficulty (without being sadistic) keeps me wanting to do just one more thing before turning it off.

The story is kinda meh so far, but it doesn't detract from the fun at all...at least for me.
Back in the late 90s/very early 2000s, I used to love the Deer Hunter series. It got even cooler when you could ride around on the ATV and pick your own hunting spot.

Serious nostalgia here:

Assassin's Creed Odyssey released a Story Creator tool so people can make their own quest chains. I experimented making a basic quest, and it was pretty enjoyable. Made a quest in a couple of hours. Learning about quest flow and doing lite programming was fascinating. I've taken a couple programming class in the passed, so it helped some, but isn't necessary.

While going through this process, I found the mode to be a highly effective creative writing tool due to the fact you can visualize and actively control the story.

so it's been about 5-6 months since I started this. I'm about 3/4 of the way completed, with only minimal work left.

Damn. That looks awesome. How big is it? Hard to get scale from that picture.

Also is that a print from that old Pens Blog artist?

The screen is 17.75 wide, so adding the 3/4 inch borders I'm looking at 19.25ish across and probably 30 inches high. I don't like the yellow buttons on front. They are color accurate to how Galaga was released, but they are convex (as opposed to the red concave buttons on the main panel) and have a cheap toy feel to them. So I probably won't tighten the panel down until I find decent replacements.

You are correct, that is one of Stephen S.'s prints of Letang in the background.

That makes me miss Super Off Road. Still look for it in any arcade situation I find myself in.

You have just won the lottery, and have decided to build yourself an arcade. What are your top five coin-op cabs that you are going to outfit your new space?

- Star Wars (OG sit-down cab from the early 80s with the vector gfx)
- Dragon's Lair
- Tempest
- Track And Field
- Ferrari F355 Challenge

Ms. Pacman
Spy Hunter
Donkey Kong
Moon Patrol
Star Trek (combat arcade game)

Dragon's Lair was like the pinnacle of video game technology for its time. It was way more expensive to play, and as such, didn't play it but 1-2 times. My parents weren't big on video games and arcades, so it was rare for me to play back in the day. My wife would agree that I'm making up for lost time now.

I was the grand champ of DL in Altoona. Like, when I put a coin on the screen to claim next play, no one else would bother, cos I was going to have that cabinet occupied for the next hour.

Galaga
Track And Field
Donkey Kong
Omega Race. In order of preference: sit down cabinet, cocktail, and standup.

and I need a racing game in there...

I almost said Hard Drivin' but remembered how poor the handling was in that game. They later corrected this and added a few more tracks in it's sequel, Race Drivin'. They released a few sit-down cabinets with three screen and five screen panoramic views, which gave a full 180 degree view. They only made 100 of those total, with the three screen version making an appearance at ReplayFX here a few years ago. I've never seen the five screen, so I'm gonna use it as my choice.

On second thought, that five monitor setup looks sloppy. I'll go with the three screen.

This is a modified version of a three screen converted to a five. It looks a little smoother

Super Off Road would probably be the oldest game I'd have in there. The rest would all be fun and unique ones like Daytona USA, Time Crisis (loved that game), and maybe one of those more modern ones with the crazy good graphics and guns you can shoot and reload.

Finished up Tomb Raider, which I thought was overall ok, but not great. I detested the rampant use of quick-time events, but the parts of the game that weren't "press this button now or die instantly" were fairly decedent. I also thought the story was massively stupid. I'm willing to suspend belief and buy the idea of an island where an evil magic force is controlling the weather. What I'm not willing to believe is that such an island exists fairly close to mainland Japan, but no government is seemingly aware of it even though every ship or aircraft that gets near it crashes or wrecks. Seriously, no one ever went on Google Earth and said "Hey, what's up with this island in the Izu Islands that has ships wrecked all over its beach?"

Now playing Avadon: The Black Fortress, which is a very old-school turn-based RPG. The story and gameplay is interesting, but the graphics look like an RPG that came out in the early 90s. It comes from Spiderweb Software, which I understand is basically a one-man shop. Still, it's a fun game, and it only cost me a couple bucks.
