It's a CryEngine game; on base PS4s and XBONEs it will only run at 900p. 4Pro ups to 1080 (woo, 180 more lines!), and adds in better particle effects and draw distances.

The criteria was cheapest to run the minimum experience.

Maybe I am being too literal.

Life is too short to accept the "minimum experience." :P

If I'm making a recommendation for someone that wants to play one game and one game only, I'm not going to recommend a console that can't even run at its full capacity on that one game.

Not my fault console developers have partitioned the market.

My advice aligns with the question asked. *shrug*

I just went on Steam and looked at the minimum and recommended specs. They are... demanding. The recommended specifications are roughly equivalent to the gaming PC I have now, and I have relatively new (and expensive) hardware. They're recommending AMD and Nvidia video cards that would come in around the $250–$300 price range, for example.

Welp, that eliminates me from trying it. Mine was $150.

And now GPU's are short in supply because of cryptocurrency mining.

The PS4 day one patch for the game was ~23GBs.

I think I'd have to buy an external HDD to run that on my PS4. I had to delete a bunch of crap just to download the Crash Bandicoot remasters.

The 4TB external HDD i got for my PS4 was the best thing I ever did(after Sony finally it an option to use external drives). It was so dumb that those things originally shipped with a 500GB HDD, even the 1TB HDD they come with now is not nearly large enough.

I'm a year behind in my gaming, just starting Watch Dogs 2 over the weekend. So I have yet to run in to any storage issues. But given the footprint of AAA titles, I can see 1 TB running short pretty quickly.

Considering I get up at 530 for work it might not be the worst idea.

Tagging on to yesterday's discussion, how does upscaled 1080p content look on a 4k display? Considering upgrading my PC/console monitor, but I don't want to do it if 95% of my content will look of butt.

Then go with a PS4 Pro.
This is really embarrassing, but I'll ask one more question: Since I haven't watched pretty much any TV since 2013 (incidentally, the birth of my older daughter), I see no reason to upgrade my TV. So, this is the 2007 "gem" that currently sits in my living room:

Will PS4 Pro recognize this grandpa of all TVs? :)

Yeah, it has HDMI inputs. You're good to go. (Whichever console you decide to get)

I wait years for game prices to go down. I just started playing Grand Theft Auto V, for example. It was finally cheap enough during the Christmas Steam sale for me to buy it. Liking it so far, although it's really, really obvious that Rockstar's goal is to get people to plunk down real money for items in GTA Online.

I especially like the return of aircraft. One of the first things I did was crash through the gates at the airport so I could steal a jet and fly around the map.

Lucasfilm, unhappy with the way EA has micro-transactioned the everloving s**t out of their IP, is apparently shopping the Star Wars license to Ubisoft and Activision.
