There was a moth the size of a small bird in the house this morning. Like, never seen a moth this size in PA. Somehow dog did not break anything trying to catch it.

Seen a Luna moth or two here.

A bit startling when you are not expecting them.

So we had a colony of carpenter ants last week. Huge winged bastards. Sprayed raid then set some bait traps. Went downstairs tonight and it is total ant carnage. Don't eff with me.

This is as close as I am willing to get to whatever the hell this is.

Not wide enough to be a moth

Well that’s a really crappy picture that doesn’t lend one to identify properly but it looks like a robber fly

I was going to say Assassin Bug, and didn't realize that was the alternate name for them.

I almost walked face first into a marbled orb-weaver web last night when I was taking the trash out. Stopped so close I think my nose was touching its ass.

Had a great specimen of a spider in my kitchen Saturday night. It was just a common house spider, but mf'er had the leg span of a lime.

Holy **** that's what those spiders are called? They were all over the woods when I worked at Markoff's Haunted Forest.

Yeah, the one I posted is an orb weaver. That one in particular was over 3" long, and my wife almost walked directly into it. Would have been so god damn funny had I not stopped her.

Ahh...OK. I know assassin bugs have a mean bite and I was confused when there was nothing in the Wiki about robber flies biting humans.

I walk through a web probably at least once a week. They love the area around our garage doors, and there is a Japanese Maple just off our driveway right near our garage that they like to use as one end of their web. It's annoying, but I always leave them alone.

Anyone having an unusual amount of small ants in their home this summer? We usually get the bigger black ants that find their way in during the spring rains, but this is the first year we're having an onslaught of tiny ants. If one piece of dog food misses the dish they'll find it and swarm. We've been killing them with spray for about two weeks but it doesn't seem to matter. Thinking of calling for an exterminator.

We get them early spring, but they seem to go away once we replace the ant traps. I'd try those before spending money on the exterminator

The wife put out some traps but maybe they're just old. The ants walk right by them on the way to whatever they were attracted to in the first place.

I mentioned this in another thread, but give the clear 'take back to the hive' ant bait [with I think Borax in it] a try, and give it a week to see how it does. Every few years we get those tiny little ants, and putting a few traps near where we find them has resolved it for us.
