What are the best company outing you have done? I've been told to plan one for my company, but no good ideas are coming to me.

Only get enjoy my first ever outing next week. And it's just lunch and a mini golf competition. Company picnic maybe? My dad use to go to those all the time at past jobs.

I think when your coworkers get to know you on a personal basis outside of the job setting it makes it a better place to work. People trust you a lot more when they know a little bit about you.

We've tried doing picnics but no one will participate. No one from the North Hills will go to South Park, and North Park is allegedly too far for the T riders. Then there are the crazy people who live out past Kittanning that commute in every day.

So I said split the difference and hold it at Schenley Park - to which everything thought the city was too dangerous :face:

I think the boss's thinking is we just hired people and have just completed some crazy months of deadlines, so he wants us to take off a work day and do something fun to relax. It would be during a work day, so no additional time together.

Whatever you do, just make it during work hours. No one wants to go outside of work hours. We have a "kickoff" event every year that's pretty cool. Last year we went to Latitude 40, and this year we went bowling. You go, hear some speakers in the morning, then eat lunch, afternoon is bowling (we also get 2 alcoholic drink tickets) and then head out around 3PM.

Actually bowling is a good one. I was in charge of this at my last company and bowling was well received.

Yeah, we did bowling both years since you can bowl at Latitude 40. HOwever you also had the option to get $10 of game play, or bowl. This year was just bowling, at the bowling alley on Neville Island.

Each year we have a "conference" that consists mostly of training and presentations about the company. But the last day we usually do some sort of outing for a couple hours or half the day and then have the rest of the day off. We've done the following over the years ranked in order of fun:
1. Scavenger hunt at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (had to answer questions based on clues regarding different exhibits in the museum)
2. Scavenger hunt in Olde City sponsored by the Constitution Center (similar to the Art Museum scavenger hunt but different historical locations instead of art. Only downside was that it was in the high 90s that day.
3. Various outdoor activities like volleyball, horseshoes, bocce, etc
4. Kickball
5. Bowling
6. Mini-golf
7. Karaoke

We've had 1 of these in the 16 years I worked where I work but are having another one this year. I'm 750 miles away now so I won't be attending this year's event.

Schenley Park is too dangerous? People from the suburbs are the worst.

If it's outside of work hours, I agree. If it's during work hours, it's a nice break from things. You'd be spending that time with them anyway. Might as well do something fun.
