The only acceptable corporate outing outside of work is if it's like a Pirate game or something similar where you're not confined to the group and you can decline to go if wanted.

It seems I like my co-workers more than the rest of you.

I think when your coworkers get to know you on a personal basis outside of the job setting it makes it a better place to work. People trust you a lot more when they know a little bit about you.

We've tried doing picnics but no one will participate. No one from the North Hills will go to South Park, and North Park is allegedly too far for the T riders. Then there are the crazy people who live out past Kittanning that commute in every day.

So I said split the difference and hold it at Schenley Park - to which everything thought the city was too dangerous :face:
Schenley Park is too dangerous? People from the suburbs are the worst.
lol, Pitt and CMU students are terrifying.

We used to have an annual beach party, those are fun. Mrs Tif's company has a big chili cookoff every July.

Went to a fancy multi-deck driving range with my work group. Did a little competition. It was fun.

Went to a comedy club once as a company-sponsored evening activity during a management retreat. The material was a little risque. I don't think anyone was offended, but if there were stick in the mud's in your group, that kind of activity might not be wise.

Yeah, we did bowling both years since you can bowl at Latitude 40. HOwever you also had the option to get $10 of game play, or bowl. This year was just bowling, at the bowling alley on Neville Island.
We did the same in the past. Boozing at Neville Island was a hell of a lot cheaper and was closer for a half of the people in our group. Neville Island vs RTC is about the same distance for me, so I'm indifferent.

Company outings are not good. I dont want to see those people. For the ones i do want to see...i will. I swear those outings are used to determine who to target for termination.

How was that last company outing to Augusta? Did you get through Amen Corner playing bogey golf?

I can almost guarantee you're better at golf than I am. You'd have to give me a stroke a hole

I hate being forced to interact with coworkers that I know I don't "click" with. It's so inorganic and is awkward all around.

Doubly worse in the military. They can't terminate you so it's just misery, and you can't get out of it. Mandatory Fun is the worst.

if my company was large and there were interesting people that i didn't know that well and who were my peers, i would welcome company outings. as it stands, i've spent my entire career in an office with 20 people, most of whom i don't care for, and at 34, i am the 2nd youngest person in the organization. we have a supermarket cater a holiday lunch. that's the extent of our extra curricular activities, and it's what we deserve.
