For me, it's the fact that a DVD is 'one more thing' to carry around, not to mention usually costs $10-15. Although, when you're 1 and 3, you will watch the same episode of Peppa the Pig or Spongebob on repeat for 3 monthsI researched tablets vs dvd players, and for my case, dvd players make sense. First off, my kids are as anti-technology as I can possibly handle (they are 1 and 3 years old). Hardly no TV, definitely no cell phones or tablets. TV is only on if 1) kids are being good and used as a reward, 2) my wife (and me if I'm home) are doing work around the house, the kids are out of control and there's no other choice, 3) kids are sick/clingy and are not up for entertaining themselves (which they are very good at doing).
A tablet would be useful for other stuff, but I am only buying this to entertain during long car trips or our upcoming flight. So basically, it's for watching movies. A tablet i have to rip all the kids movies onto the thing, and even then it's limited in space. The more HD space I want, the more expensive they get.
I know this will probably become obsolete when my kids get older, but for $52, it's worth it to me.

90% of the movies we have are from the library, so cost is nothing. You're right about the extra space though. That slightly tilts me towards a tablet, but not far enough. Also the SD card slot is interesting. I feel like I'm so far behind on technology these days. When I was single, I was all about the latest craze. Now I'm stuck in 2007.For me, it's the fact that a DVD is 'one more thing' to carry around, not to mention usually costs $10-15. Portable DVD players are definitely 2007, yes. Step 1 is recognizing you have a problem

FYI, there are also some decent gift cards for sale during Prime Day, most appearing to be 20% off. Much better than the gift cards I've been buying on Raise and GiftCardZen.

if i were to connect my BT speaker via 3.5mm cable to a dot, would the dot wake up the speaker if it were resting? for example if i was in my kitchen, not using my speaker and said alexa, play the thong song, would it go through my speaker?

It depends on your speaker. If your speaker doesn't automatically go to sleep after a set amount of time, like most bluetooth speakers do, then it'll remain on the entire time. So any time you talk to Alexa, you'd hear the responses from that speaker.if i were to connect my BT speaker via 3.5mm cable to a dot, would the dot wake up the speaker if it were resting? for example if i was in my kitchen, not using my speaker and said alexa, play the thong song, would it go through my speaker?
However, you'll want to make sure that this is the case for your speaker. My bluetooth speakers all automatically power off - even if hardwired to the AC outlet - after a certain amount of inactivity, and I cannot change this behavior.

Thinking about picking this 29 inch LG monitor up for my Xbox and my tower. This seems like a solid deal, any thoughts?

Don't know for sure, but it has both 3.5mm and bluetooth connectivity, so it should be able to connect to an Echo Dot.this may seem like a stupid question, however, we are looking to get two of these (https://www.amazon.com/Monster-GLO-Outd ... Seriously, keep your kids off of their own tablets/iPods for as long as you can. It's a battle for us to keep our kids off of video games all day, especially during the summer. It's like they forget how to entertain themselves without a video screen.Source of the post That slightly tilts me towards a tablet, but not far enough.

If I do end up buying a tablet, it will be mommy and daddy's tablet that the kids can borrow at our discretion.

Have you ever seen one of those in person? I'd be worried about how certain games and applications looked on a screen that wide, personally.https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01B67 ... ref=plSrch

Came across this on Amazon while looking for something else:
Plastic lid with a cutout to fit the Joule: $25
Rubbermaid lid that you can cut out easily with any knife: $5
I can't believe people spend an extra $20 for a pre-cut hole.

I should buy a crate of the $5 lids, cut the holes out myself, and then sell my own on Amazon for $20.

I ended up grabbing an Echo for myself, using the $10 credit I received yesterday for another Alexa order. My daughter will be happy.

That didn't really cross my mind but I looked it up and the Xbox is set to a 16:9 aspect ratio.Have you ever seen one of those in person? I'd be worried about how certain games and applications looked on a screen that wide, personally.https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01B67 ... ref=plSrch

I brought this up in the cooking thread while you were on hiatus. It's such a scam.Came across this on Amazon while looking for something else:
Plastic lid with a cutout to fit the Joule: $25Rubbermaid lid that you can cut out easily with any knife: $5I can't believe people spend an extra $20 for a pre-cut hole.
You can also make covers out of yoga mats.
I believe this is actually how the pre-cut lid 'business' was started. People on eBay selling lids they'd cut themselves with a whole saw.I should buy a crate of the $5 lids, cut the holes out myself, and then sell my own on Amazon for $20.

I actually don't like where they placed the hole. I keep my Joule in the corner, allowing the water to circulate better.
