In the mid 1970s Carroll Smith had the chance to engineer an Atlantic car for James Hunt in a one-off guest appearance. During the weekend, several young drivers got to chat with Hunt and solicit advice. One was a young French-Canadian kid called Gilles Villeneuve, who was worried his extremely Francophillic name would hold him back in his career. Hunt said, "Don't change your name; if my name was 'Jim Hunt' you'd have never heard of me."
No idea if that's true or not (it's in one of Smith excellent "To Win" series of books), but I'm not entirely sure the same logic applies to engineers.

When I think Ferrari strategy can’t get worse, they do something I couldn’t even imagine

Tony Schumacher took his first Top Fuel dragster win since 2020 today.
I can't find a video of it yet but his run in the semi finals against Justin Ashley was an incredible display of his driving skill

So it's the summer break. My thoughts, in order of team standings:
Red Bull might not have the best car, but they're driving rings around Ferrari in terms of race strategy. Verstappen has come a long way from the "Crash Musthappen" days. Perez is ok, but I think the talent gap between RB's drivers is the greatest of the top teams. I bet RB would agree to swap Perez for Sainz in a heartbeat.
Leclerc and Sainz have made mistakes on track, and Ferrari has made plenty of mistakes on the pit wall. Ferreri has collectively shot themselves in the feet so many times they must be down to stumps.
Mercedes looks like they might be getting their car sorted out, and they're only 30 points behind Ferrari in the team standings. Hamilton and Russell are likely the best driver pairing in the field. They could make moves in the second part of the season.
Alpine is meh. Alonso and Ocon are meh. This is a factory works team? Meh. Also, I still don't know why Renault renamed this team Alpine when that brand makes like one car, and it isn't even all that good.
McLaren can be fast in qualifying, especially for Norris, but trails off in the races. Riccardo is showing his age. I'd love to see what Norris could do in a Red Bull.
Bottas isn't too bad with Alfa Romeo, although it looks like as more other teams are getting their cars sorted out, Alfa is falling farther back. I hope Zhou brings a lot of sponsorship money, because he doesn't seem to be bringing driving talent.
Haas is hot and cold. Magnussen has shown streaks of good performance, but then the team will just go invisible for a race. Mick is looking more and more like his uncle Ralf than his father, which is probably why Ferrari re-signed Sainz to a longer deal.
AlphaTauri to me is a disappointment. The No-Longer-Honda appears to be pretty good engine, and Gasly at least has shown himself to be a competent driver. Tsunoda is meh. The car just doesn't seem to be very good.
Aston Martin is maybe a disappointment. Vettel is showing why this is his last year, Team Owners Son's doesn't have the chops, and the car just isn't very good. But I didn't really expect them to be all that good, which is the reason for the "maybe."
Williams is still clearly the worst team, but I do see a little bit of improvement, and Albon has had some good drives. Latifi is another driver I hope brings plenty of sponsorship money, because he certainly ain't bringing driving talent. I hope this team makes it back to the top some day.

Tsunoda is a net negative. Sooner he gets spit out of the sport the better.

Saucy:
The assumption is that he is jumping into Dan's seat at McLaren. Which might trigger a bunch of silly season shenanigans over the summer break.

Especially in the Indycar world where Zak Brown has been dangling that seat in front of drivers constantly.

You can have lunch at La Rascasse restaurant in Monaco on race day for less than $2500.
MIL still lives in Vegas, so we've got that going for us.

So.......... you can just duck inside the inner lane in the pits and overtake cars by driving through other teams' pit boxes?

I mean, the maths are bad enough on their face, but the **** up is compounded by the fact that they didn't actually set fastest lap.

Yea because the idiots put him out behind Alonso. He would have set it but he had to pass a freaking guy
I’m just so disappointed. Leclerc should have at the very least WON two additional races, and possibly up to 4 more. On top of that, it seems like RB and Mercedes have totally ignored the budget cap considering RB is coming out with a light weight chassis next. And on top of that on top of that, Horner seems to absolutely have fooled that ****** Toto into thinking the new TD would hurt RB and Ferrari…but it looks like it only hurt Ferrari who was porpoising all over the place again
To add, Leclerc also has the worst luck I’ve seen in a long time for an F1 driver. Freaking Max’a tear off, of all people, gets caught in his brake duct, ruins his race, then messes up the speed sensor which then docks him another two points AFTER the race was finished. You can’t make this up

Driver errors are more forgivable imo, just because. Some are inexcusable, of course (e.g. crashing in the pitlane David Coulthard-style). But generally, I'll give drivers a lot more leeway as it is the nature of the sport. That said, the WTF1 site (admitted Ferrari/Leclerc homers) recently figured that between team mistakes and driver errors and reliability they've left something like 100 points on the table just on Leclerc's side of the garage. And that's after being gifted their chief title rivals being somewhat lost at sea for the first several races, and one of them still really only fighting for podium positions. Leclerc isn't even in P2 in the championship standings anymore.
In my lifetime drivers used to win entire championships with less than 100 points on a season, total. So even with the revised scoring system that's been in place for a very long time now seeing that kind of a number as a whoopsiedoodle triggers me somewhat.
