Just saw this on YouTube, didn't even know it was a thing.

It's 1hr44, so I won't be watching it at work. Dragged the timeline through a couple spots and saw Patrick Head, Jackie Steward, Peter Windsor. The comments are unusually positive, looks like it might be worth a watch.

Fun fact: I've see it reported by some (not able to verify this myself) that Frank Williams is the longest-survived quadriplegic in history.

Dad's having prostate surgery this morning. I told him I'd swing by and we can watch the Runoffs all afternoon at the hospital.

I will not be animated by dodint's insistence on sharing vintage photos of broken Ferraris.

Neat video on aerodynamics with Peter Windsor and Willem Toet.

This might mean the return of Bob Varsha. But it would suck if it was at the expense of Steve Matchett. Whatever the lineup, hopefully the driver analyst will someone with more recent experience; I love Hobbo, but the last time he turned a wheel in anger Bush Major was president.
Beginning with the Australian Grand Prix, every race will air live on the either ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC. The package will include every practice and qualifying session and involve more than 125 hours of F1 programming across the first season.
So 90 more minutes of coverage on Friday, and an added hour on Saturday.

They royally screwed over CART in the last few years of their coverage, but ABC has historically been the home of F1 in the States. I fondly remember the days when coverage of the Indy 500 and Monaco GPs would be edited together and broadcast as one single event. The idea is silly today, of course, but such was life in the 80s.

Yeah, for some reason ABC is soothing to me but ESPN gives me the **** creeps. Bad choices with football. And they constantly over run programming. Granted, most F1 races are in the middle of the night (will they even do it live, or rebroadcast only?) but if Lebron has a bad dream about Tebow farting in his soup they'll setup a 2am four hour SportsCenter to cover it.

We will see, I guess. No use worrying about it now.

The reporting I've been reading says all races will be carried live, with Monaco re-broadcast same-day on ABC (following the Indy 500). The only live races on ABC will be the US and Mexican GsP. (Kinda surprised Canada is out of that mix, as it is consistently the most-watched event on the calendar in the US) If all sessions are to be broadcast, it wouldn't make any sense to time shift them.

Pruett saying his contact at ESPN is saying they'll use the world feed announcers and pit reporters.

Who does world feed commentary?
STATEMENT FROM AN NBC SPORTS SPOKESPERSON ON FORMULA ONE MEDIA RIGHTS

“Although we take great pride in having grown Formula One’s visibility and viewership since we became its exclusive U.S. media rights holder in 2013, this will be our last season with the series. In this case, we chose not to enter into a new agreement in which the rights holder itself competes with us and our distribution partners. We wish the new owners of F1 well.”

TIL that Max Verstappen is at the bottom of the laps-completed list for 2017, behind even Alonso.... who is in a car with a Honda engine, had a DNS in Russia, and skipped one whole race meeting altogether.

MIA: Insurance directive could 'close down all motorsport' in EU
Motorsport could cease in the European Union amid an insurance crisis unless businesses and employees reply to an EU consultation by October 20, according to the Motorsport Industry Association.

The consultation is into a VNUK ruling, which applies to all 27 EU member states, made by the Court of Justice of the European Union in September 2014.

It requires compulsory unlimited third-party liability insurance to be carried by anyone using any form of motorised transport, in any location.

That includes everything from ride-on lawnmowers and tractors to single-seater and tin-top competition vehicles, even at private venues like race circuits, throughout the EU.

This means crashes in motorsport events would be treated as road traffic accidents and would involve the police, as would any road traffic collision.
What the what.
