It's worth noting the start was wet and maybe should have occured under SC.

I'm glad they didn't but it was a **** show up and down the grid.

So, in the parking lot where I have an office, there are 4 top-dollar tractors with top-dollar trailers attached. Travel trailers of cars. Mario Andretti cars.

Security says I see nothing, just move along. Me? Nope. I have all access as to this lot and someone will talk. So, there is a scheduled event in Los Angeles of racing that so far is not known. Two trailers of cars, one trailer of parts, one trailer of living spaces.

Irwindale has a track, in LA County in October full of drifting cars, but they do not list Andretti racing as a participant.

Hopefully more details to follow, with some tickets to the event.

Michael's Rallycross Team perhaps?

A saw the Penske Indycar trailer passing through the other day on the way back from Sonoma.

My guess is it's for the Mario Andretti Racing Experience, which has events scheduled for 9/29 and 10/1 at Fontana.

Mystery solved. @CBear3 nailed it. Two of the trailers house Global Rallycross cars for Tanner Foust and Scott Speed. They both are running the VW GRC Beetle for the Andretti Race Team. The third trailer house parts, and the fourth is a luxury VIP lounge on wheels with a full slide out side.

Excellent. That's right down the hill from our first house in San Pedro.

Went to the nhra Dodge nationals in reading today. Great time as always. Sucked seeing Robert Hight get bounced in the second round as he reset both sides of the track record Friday night.

Dang, I'm still bummed that I was never able to take BigMcK up on his offer to go to NHRA at Pomona. Not my bag, but definitely something I'd like to check out.

STR press release:
For the next Grands Prix, Pierre Gasly will be driving for Scuderia Toro Rosso, standing in for Daniil Kvyat, alongside Carlos Sainz. Gasly, one of the Red Bull Junior Programme drivers, has been racing in Japan this year in the Super Formula category. The 2016 GP2 Champion finished second in last Sunday's race, having won the two previous rounds. The 21 year old will therefore get his chance to prove himself in F1. This is not a case of goodbye for our Daniil, as he still remains part of the Red Bull Family.

You buy the seat, so Gasly scores for Kyvat as a surrogate.

Damn, you might make some headway. Gasly is talented enough to at least be Sainz's equal I feel. But then again I thought Sainz was performing as Max's equal too.

Yes it is.

Actually, has a RB driver ever been demoted from the junior team and then promoted back to the RB F1 program?

Here is the record-setting run, and the second fastest pass in NHRA history (he had the fastest pass earlier this year too, until Matt Hagan knocked him down in the same race).

Actually... 1000 feet... They had to shorten it because they couldn't stop in time

lol They can't do 1/4 miles because they're going too fast to stop? That is amazing.

Vandergriff once told me that he was constantly asked how fast the cars would go if the track was longer. His answer was absolutely no faster. The engines are already rebuilt after 1/4 mile because they're too stressed from it. To make an engine last a 1/2 mile they'd have to detune it and they'd be right back where they started.

*sploosh*

The McLaren F1 is really the only supercar from the 80s and 90s that still looks the part today.

@CBear3 , that's exactly as it should be, imo. In terms of grand prix racing, the car should sputter to a halt after running out of fuel a few hundred feet after taking the checkers. The whole idea of a cool down lap is silly, in the abstract, as it means the minimum length of a race is really 305 km + 1 lap. (not applicable at Monaco or Spa)

When I do bother, late at night, to let my mind wander to what it would be like to win the lottery I always think that McF1 would be on the list. It's one of the few things in life I lust for despite knowing that I will never, ever be able to have one without some kind of divine intervention. It's a warm thought, but ultimately saddening.

Unrelated, but the new owners of F1 are thinking about putting microphones in the F1 car exhaust to make the motors sound louder. Because the motors suck as they are and this is undeniable.

Until it revs up to 20k it'll still sound cheesy.

I always had a hard on F355. Last Ferrari without wind tunnel design work. For that reason, I'd go F40, but I wouldn't kick a McLaren F1 out of the garage.

Modern F1 cars sound like they have emphysema, or consumption, or some other 19th century respiratory disease. They're just 100% overly complicated ass, and all they do is take gas and electricity and turn them into sadness.

The F40 definitely looks dated, but it is, imo, the ne plus ultra supercar.

They changed the rule when Scott Kalitta passed away after not being able to stop completely and hit the wall in a fiery crash which took his life. They used to run quarter miles, but shortened it to 1000 feet as a safety precaution.

NSFL, he does die..
