This is the only thread that excludes NASCAR discussion specifically, so...

*thupupupup*

I look at this more as the business of racing more than the discussion on the sport.

@CBear3

Why have you not mentioned your involvement with DWR Thursday Night Blunder?

Other than getting clicks for their sponsors, there's not much "involvement." :)

It's a fun little ditty, but doing it now when Sean is editing the podcast interviews and doing whatever he is for the video stuff this year has taken some of the fun out. The after hours broadcasts used to be just as fun as the live ones, but this time of year getting live guests is still hard and Sean leaves to do actual work instead of watching additional lunacy.

I do have a new-found respect for Marc Miller though. Dude raced with us most weeks regardless.

I've tuned into a few broadcasts but that's about it. Just happened to catch you mentioning it on Twitter.

For the most part the racing is just as clean as my past leagues, despite it being completely farcical race formats where contact is expected. You could very easily have one or two jerk offs intentionally wrecking people and ruin the fun, but most of the regulars get it. And I made it into the final unlike a handful of the regulars who fancy themselves influencers in the making too, which was extra sweet.

The one that hooked me was when they had a field of Formula V against IndyCars and NASCARs.

That was murder. The Vee was flat out even under caution so if anything happened to you your race was done.

I still love things like the 410 Sprints around Le Mans, and they sort of did that with the Silver Crown at Watkins Glen, but it was actually too racey and could compete with the GT3 cars.

So, how bout that first F1 action being private, yeah? Have they done that before? Iirc last time there was a major rules overhaul it was McLaren's first year with Honda, and they were horrid. I think they only managed 5 laid in 2 days at the first test, and under 180 the second time out over 5 days. And that was a turrible look for the support, teams, the suppliers, the sponsors, everyone.

I heard it was because some other venue... Bahrain?...paid to be the first official test of the year so this private running isn't technically a test.

Bahrain was reclassified as a 'shakedown', or somesuch. I think they just don't want 20 brand new cars built to brand new rules, and having one or more teams have issues like McLaren-Honda in 20whatever, and have on live global streaming.

Imagine going back to 1955 and explaining "F1 car reveals" to the competitors. And then once they understand the concept you further explain that they're actually just drawings.

Is AMR still the only team that's revealed an actual car????

That’s it other than RB who just basically had a show car.

I don’t fault these teams though. The new rules are pretty tight so hiding what you have done as long as possible is smart

Honestly, I think the new cars (or renders of them) all look pretty good so for. I'm excited for track action.

It would appear the new design regulations (vis-a-vis width) would make it easier to pass, though I guess the downside of that is it will be harder for drivers in inferior cars who find themselves in good positions to play defense against those trying to get by.

When is the last time in the DRS era an inferior car held off an attacker for more than a few laps? (I don't mean that as snark, I honestly can't remember)

I'm not sure I can remember either. Depending on the situation a few laps could be all it takes. But obviously the concrete positives outweigh any potential negatives.

Cars look great. Some of the body work is pretty crazy but these cars are really nice looking

Seems like Ferrari might have something here (knocks on wood)

Cars are great, but they looked IndyCar sluggish in the footage I saw yesterday. I'm not sure what the purpose of the weight increase was this year.

Also, the Ferrari is giving me early 1994 412T1 vibes, which I like.
