ESPN is going to simulcast the Sky coverage. I presume they will randomly cut off the announce crew every 10 minutes to run commercials as I'm pretty sure the Sky coverage is still commercial free.

ESPN is the reason Liberty pushed the races back to :10 after the hour. So presumably ESPN can go without a pre-race show of their own. Will also allow for the most amount of time to decide to dump out of coverage to push the Sky feed to ESPN3 so they can talk a little more about Lebron.

Supposedly a bunch of former ESPN folks work for Liberty now so their relationship is pretty solid so far.

I really hope Liberty gets a streaming platform off the ground. I would gladly pay for a platform that was commercial free* and would allow me to login and start the race whenever I wanted. Supposedly this is what caused them to break from NBC so maybe ESPN/ABC is happy to let them do it.

*I would tolerate some ads in the coverage itself, like picture in picture or whatever, as long as it meant you went flag to flag with full coverage.

Yessir.
Sky's coverage boasts a host of former F1 drivers including Martin Brundle, Damon Hill, Johnny Herbert, Paul di Resta and Anthony Davidson.

I imagine it'll be like the Blancpain GT broadcasts where someone is divebombing into a corner to pass for a lead and then it dumps into a vaginal mesh lawyer commercial with no bumper.

So I watched that Grand Prix Driver series on Amazon last night (four 30-minute episodes). What a colossal sht show McLaren and Honda has become. It's amazing to see organizations with the resources of those two companies be completely at sea. They blew nine engines in one test.

Something that occurred to me in the watching: McLaren became a road car manufacturer in 2011 (MP4-12C). They won six races that year, and the next year they won seven races...... and since, they have two podium finishes to their name, and they were both in the first race of 2014. It's hard not to see that as more than merely correlative.

Supposedly Haas shot their reveal video using angles that hide that god awful halo.

What's it for again? It doesn't prevent Massa type injuries. Might not even prevent a Justin Wilson type incident either. Looks like a fancy way of obstructing driver vision.

I'm a guy that removed a front antenna from a Ford Mustang because it bugged me on track so it's possible I'm over sensitive.

The Halo is stupid. The only thing it might prevent would be an entire car spearing a driver in the face. (Or, to cite an actual example, maybe a driver spearing a support truck with his face.)

After Imola 1994, they added temporary chicanes to half a dozen circuits. Spain, added a 3' high tire chicane after T9; Canada, kerbed chicane between the hairpin and the WOC chicane; Britain, converted Abbey from a flat-out kink to a chicane; Belgium, in an I-sht-you-not moment they added a kerbed chicane at the foot of Eau Rouge; Portugal, an absurdly tight uphill chicane was added before the Parabolica; Jerez, a kerbed chicane was added at the fast right-hander before the hairpin at the end of the lap. Within two years, half of those were reverted back to their pre-chicane layouts. In the cases of Spain, Canada, and Belgium, the reversions also included other modifications that made the circuits faster in those sections.

It's 'security theater', but with racing car safety.

The Haas looks fine, if a bit basic. I'm not liking the "white only on the top half" aspect of the Williams.

I may be wrong, but I don't think we're expecting any major livery changes for this season.

Yes. I suppose there is that. Can't believe it's happened at least twice during my viewership.

This could just be a launch thing to obscure the design with the black-on-black-background aspect. I hope they don't show up in Australia looking like that.

Way back when I was playing Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 3 video game (on my blistering AMD K6-2-powered PC), the custom team/livery I created using Paint was a Swift Chrysler. I even put a little Chrysler pentastar on the nose and everything.
