He has a build thread for it on rrax if you're on there.
Otherwise, throw him a subscription on Youtube as he's documenting the build there, it's pretty good content and he gets better at production every video:

I have an ecotec sitting in the shop that was supposed to go in my father's Blakely Bantam (Lotus 7 variant). I really want to throw it in a 914 though. I've always loved those.

Are you friends with Greg Amy? That guy knows everything about those Porsches.

See him often in the B-Spec facebook page, but that's about it

I'll put you in touch if you ever want to run down that dream. He's the guru for those.

Huh is right.

Heading to the fabricator down in Washington on Saturday. Much excite.

What are you fabbing, the cage is already there?

The guy that did my cage (The Roll Cage Guy) does really, really good work. But he was also short-handed. He had my car for something like 7-9 months instead of a few weeks as promised, and he also skipped a lot of the smaller items I needed done.
This is a detailed breakdown if you want to see it: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/ ... ue&sd=true
The short of it is that I need a mirror mounted, harness plates/eyes, hood pins, mounts for my fire bottle nozzles and pull cords, and my windshield installed.

That's not too bad a list.

New ticket email for F1 Vegas today. GA 3-day is still $500. I don't think I realized this in December when I last brought it up, but the GA area is just the 5-turn complex around the MSG Sphere.

This is super annoying: I still can't bet against Max in Jeddah.

Alonso's penalty situation was highly lol

So that was, uh, quite the finish the other day...

The FIA is where NASCAR was in the mid 2000's. They've suddenly found themselves in control of a widely popular property through none of their own making and are just scrambling to try to make it cooler now. You saw it in AD with the restart farce, and again with the lunacy of a 2 lap standing start sprint.

And then they hit sainz with essentially an 8 place penalty on a lap that didn’t count. The standing restart should have never been on the table let alone the red flag for a little debris on the trackThe FIA is where NASCAR was in the mid 2000's. I went out to PittRace to test the racecar on Sunday. It's the first time it's been driven since 2019.
I was so very nervous sitting on grid, thinking about everything we had done with the build and hoping it all held together. We stripped it down almost to the shell (only the rear window remained), 'new' motor from a 330xi, refreshed transmission, new LSD, new suspension, new ECU, new cooling system. Very few parts of the car are the same as it was when it was last on track (brakes, hubs, steering rack, some parts of the intake manifold, etc.). It was raining in the session and I'm running on some older 200TW tires to chew them up, it was pretty easy to kick the back end to kick out.
It was a great two laps, everything felt solid, and then...
Coming out of Turn 11 on my second time around the steering wheel 'reset' at what was probably a 20-degree angle to the right. My initial thought was that I had busted an end link or tie rod (despite having no offs or any unusual driving). I was able to limp it back to the paddock with some really inconsistent steering input. Once I parked I jostled the steering wheel around and it began to spin freely.
As you can see from the picture, the steering shaft at the firewall came uncoupled from the u-joint. I feel really lucky, given how wet the grass was, that I was able to get the problem under control at a safe pace as there is nowhere around the track I could've gone straight off at speed and not hit something hard.
A bunch of other drivers helped try and get the shaft reseated but we just couldn't get the right combination of angle and pressure. I gave up after three hours and then carefully loaded the car onto the trailer without any steering input.
I think what happened was at the beginning of the build the cage fabricator took the steering column off to do his work, as the column is welded to the cage dash bar. This was fairly easy because I sent it to him with no motor in the car. He must have reconnected that joint but ran the set bolt through it without the shaft fully inserted. The set bolt was there and fully tight. Crucially, in all the time it sat at my house with the cage in and the motor out, I never grabbed that link and gave it a tug to see if it was set correctly. So after changing what must be 85% of the components on the car I was foiled by a loose mechanical connection on a component we never worked on. Disappointing.
That said, yesterday was a test/shakedown day and we found a critical fault. So that's a success. I think when we get it in a garage (instead of laying on the ground in the rain with limited tools) we'll be able to get it in there. The shaft and joint are keyed and it's a real pain to get all that to line up while also applying enough pressure to have it slide in.
So, the first test is done. And I have a fresh due-out list of things to change before the next time.

Glad you didn't die.
Seriously though, that could have been a very big problem, glad you found it relatively safely.

Yeah. I'm very glad that it still snugged up enough to do some steering. When I put it on the jack and reached up there it fell off as soon as I touched it. Some of that is from the load being off the suspension, but still, wild moment. When I got back to paddock I thought it was just my steering wheel adapter being loose. When I went to tighten it the shaft spun freely when I applied the tightening force.

For the record, I, too, am glad you didn't die.

Awww, that's sweet. Same to you bud.

There's a "Jesus take the wheel" joke in here somewhere.
