Cyndi Lauper.

I got Mrs. Franchise the Avett Bros. NYE Concert for Christmas. Might look to do something similar in the future. Worth the $40 to avoid the commercial and other BS laden network shows which I’m sure other than the crowds ain’t much different this year.

This is a great idea for next year, thanks. Honestly, I knew the network shows were getting worse and worse but good lawd that was bad last night.

44 years ago yesterday, Elvis left the building for the last time in Pittsburgh.

Video is queued up to the "left the building" moment.

According to comedian Bobcat Goldthwait, who opened for Nirvana at some shows during the band's In Utero tour, Cobain had wanted to make a music video for "All Apologies" that involved him being drunk at a party. Goldthwait suggested that Cobain perform the song dressed as Lee Harvey Oswald, singing into the camera while putting his rifle together in the Texas School Book Depository from which he assassinated American president John F. Kennedy. Cobain told Goldthwait that MTV didn't allow guns in music videos, so Goldthwait suggested he use a pie instead of a gun, with Novoselic or Grohl playing Kennedy and being hit by the pie in the back of their head. Cobain liked the idea, but no official music video for the song was ever made. The MTV Unplugged performance of the song began airing as a music video on MTV in December 1993 instead.
Bobcat is the best

I've been a Steely Dan fan since about 1993 (when Kamakiriad was released and they were cited as a big influence on my then favorite band, Prefab Sprout), but for some reason it took about 20 years before I got into their 2nd album, Countdown to Ecstasy. I'm not sure I even had listened to it in its entirely until then. I can't really explain it, because it makes no sense. Same with Joni Mitchell's Blue. I'd been a long-time Joni fan before I got into the album that many view as her masterpiece.

I have many more, equally boring stories.

I've always been a fan of steely dan as well, mostly because my dad was a fan, but I don't really know anything outside of Aja, gaucho and pretzel logic. We had a steely dan new years eve dance party with the kids where alexa shuffled songs for hours and it was awesome

I really like Kamakiriad as well.

On an unrelated note, The War on Drugs has a new live album out...and it's very good. Has a Warren Zevon cover on it as well.
