Don't know your repertoire, but others I'd suggest (if you don't already know them)

46 and 2
Schism
The Grudge
Hysteria
Bullet In The Head
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Higher Ground (RHCP)
Sabotage
Ace Of Spades
Basically anything from Earth, Wind & Fire, anything played by Bootsy Collins, etc

I'd also make a game of learning every single commercial bumper from every episode of Seinfeld, because apparently they were all unique.

I've taken my time off with the band to learn some more rock tunes on the bass. I have a catalog of 100s of songs I can play on guitar but very few on the bass outside of our set list.

Name some iconic basslines for me to learn.

So far I've done:
Beat It
Under Pressure
Anesthesia (the first half anyway...)
My Name is Mud (it's not perfect)
One of These Nights
Money
Nativity in Black
My Friend of Misery
Orion.

I know prog rock probably isn't your thing, but any of Yes' early albums are excellent for bass players. Chris Squire was phenomenal. Very melodic player.

Holy **** if I could play like Squire I'd be very happy lol. He's so GD good. I couldn't play any Yes now if I tried. I'm a good musician but I'm still a rather novice bassist. Roundabout is one of the best bass songs ever...

Orion.
This was one of the first things I learned. I know it all but the bass solo.

**** yeah dude! Great list!

I know Forty Six and 2 and Schism already. I'm definitely interested in more funky RnB stuff too so EW&F is a good suggestion. Thanks!

I'd look up some Jinjer ...alot of their songs have very interesting bass lines/parts.

"A minute later she sent me this picture."

So either this story went from heartwarming to borderline creepy (she not only still had the photo, but had it close enough to hand that she knew where it was, was able to retrieve it and photograph it and send that along via tweet in a minute), or Al is lying and he is the possessor of the photo and he made the whole thing up.

........ some people, man.
;)

My box of childhood memorabilia is in Altoona, so maybe I'm not in the most relatable of positions.

@Gaucho @tifosi77 you pay much attention to writers like this?
https://greilmarcus.net/current_2020/
christgau and guralnick are more relatable for me because i've determined marcus has always wanted to be the faulkner of this genre and i'm not a fan of faulkner's. anyway, i don't read marcus for years then stumble on this and find myself appreciating the insights.

I only read Mystery Train, terrific book. I'm also a big fan of Faulkner. ;)

But I still haven't read Sweet Soul Music. Been meaning to since forever. Shame on me.

i'm not surprised you're good with 7,000 words on perambulating twenty feet under a canopy of trees on a hot summer day
