Ended up with the ESP. I've had it for a few months and really enjoy it. Great compliment to my LP Studio.
Finally got around to rewiring it this weekend.
It came with not terrible pickups. I already had an EMG Zakk Wylde set (81/85) that have been gathering dust since I sold my first Les Paul 10 years ago. Metallica are famous for using those electronics, but New Found Glory used them too, and when I installed them in 2003 that was the sound I was looking for.
I added two EMG SA pickups, most famously played by David Gilmour in the post Waters era up through the late 90s. They can be heard on Momentary Lapse of Reason, Division Bell, and his awesome Comfortably Numb solo on Pulse.
I also did a mod where instead of one 9v battery to power the onboard preamp, I wired two in series. Gives it more headroom.

Hendrix's cover of All Along the Watchtower was so good that Dylan himself started playing it that way in concert.

I always view that as the gold standard for covers because it caused the original artist to revisit their own song.
Not necessarily my favorite cover song of all time, but that is an impressive feat.

Nice work here. Did you have to do any physical trimming to make room for the extra pre-amp battery?

and nope, both of them are wedged in around the switch and pots. Something is slightly lose though. I thought I found it earlier this week but I need to get in there again and keep trying. If I tug the switch side to side something loses its ground. I think its probably the fact that I have 5 wires ground to one pot, and something isn't fully soldered properly. I need a better pen - mine is bottom of the barrel Radio Shack.
I will say that I'll miss Radio Shack a lot for those parts. I didn't have a second battery harness, which I would have bought there. Impatient to wait for the internet I just soldered wire right to the battery contacts.

30 years ago, WXXP 100.7, one of the country’s first alternative radio stations, went off the air. I didn’t arrive in the area until 1989 so I missed it but am aware of the history. Have not really been a ton of stations like it since- WFNX Boston and WHFS Washington come to mind. Both also gone now.

about 95 when I found 104.7 The Revolution was when I decided that my favorite type of music was "alternative"

I had a sticker on my old cd player from 104.7 the revolution. I feel when they went off the air the last song they played was For Whom The Bell Tolls.. I remember that for some reason.

I remember listening to Quinn and Banana on b94 in the eighties. Much like most of the right wing jocks, he first was a failed morning zoo type lame ass dj.

I've been so starved for music that I switched to playing bass because of the demand. Ended up in a blues band with a bunch of older dudes and having a really good time. I was in a blues band as a guitarist in my early 20s and learned a ton from those guys. These guys are so much better though. The harp player is world class (Clint Hoover) and the singer/guitarist is I'm Nieds Hotel Band. I forgot how much fun it is to play the blues.

The new Halestorm record is very good. I know it knocks me down a few pegs on the true metal head list, but Lzzy Hale has a helluva voice.

I dig them as just a fun Rock band. Nothing technical about them just music I can turn my brain off and enjoy without thinking about it.

Listened to Nathaniel Ratelliff and the Night Sweats new album on my way down to DC this week. Damn is that some good stuff.
When we go to the Outlaw Music Festival at Saratoga Performing Arts Center this fall, Rateliff will be there, along with Neil Young and Willie Nelson. Can't wait.

She has a great voice, just not many great songs to go along with it. I have heard good things about the new album though.

They have a few songs I like, Love Bites by far being the best, but in general I actually like their covers better than their original songs.
